Subscription Box Reviews

Somehow I jumped on this train a little (a lot) late.  To think people have been getting fun surprise packages in the mail all this time?  I die.  So far I have only subscribed to four eight as many as I can find twelve I have no idea how many boxes, but I have a feeling that’s only the start ;) .

BabbaBox: BabbaBox is filled with activities that allow kids to create, explore, story tell and connect. Each monthly box has a theme and appears to be learning based, which I like. It’s a little pricey at $29.99/month, but the box includes materials valued at $40/$50 every month. And you can join thru my link for $10 off!

BarkBox: BarkBox is a New York City based subscription-commerce company serving dog owners and their four-legged friends every month. Boxes start at $18/month (6-month subscription) and you customize your box by selecting your dog size (small, medium or large). Everyone gets basically the same items, just in a size that fits your dog!  Use code “RAMBLING10″ to save $10 off your first box.

Birchbox: After what seemed like forever, I was finally invited to join Birchbox.  I think the longer they made me wait, the more I wanted to join.  It costs $10/monthly and is filled with mainly samples of grooming, beauty and other lifestyle products.  And they often team up with other companies / brands (Gossip Girl, Glamour) on their monthly boxes, so you are sure to like something!  Oh, and you can review each of your samples for 10 points.  100 points = $10.  So every two months you get $10 to spend at their store. How awesome is that?

Birchbox Man: Since I felt bad B was missing out on the fun (I mean, even W gets a box), I got him a 3 month subscription to Birchbox Man (which turned into an annual subscription). It’s $20/month and includes high-end grooming and lifestyle products. Both sample and full-sizes. B is a product guy and is always game to try new things. Unlike me, when he gets a sample he uses it.

bluum: bluum monthly subscription company that offers samples for moms and babies (it caters towards 0-12 month olds) for $14.95/month.  They recently launched a toddler box for ages 1 and older which retails for $24.95 and offers full sized products and deluxe samples.   I signed up through PlumDistrict a while back and have been getting them ever since!

Citrus Lane is geared towards babies / kids 5 and under.  You put in the kids age and Citrus Lane will create a box for you based on their age and gender.  I was in love the minute I opened the first box.  It’s $25/month which isn’t too bad considering all the goodies. If you order through my link, you’ll save $10 off your order!

Cravebox: Cravebox used to have a monthly subscription, however, they now just offer various Limited Edition themed boxes.  They are fairly inexpensive and well, they combine two of my loves.  Grab bags (boxes) and contests.  The drawings for the Dog Lovers and Summer Beauty Boxes are over, but coming up they have a Coffee Lovers box, a Little Ones box and a New Moms box!

The Goodies Co.: The Goodies Company Taster’s Box is $7/month and features an assortment of trial-sized, delicious new foods delivered directly to your doorstep. It’s a WalMart company so I am assuming that their HUGE size has something to do with why they can pack a box full of well, goodies, for only $7/month. Seriously, $7 shipped for a big box is a DEAL!

The Honest Company: The Honest Company is a monthly subscription service which offers a Diapers Bundle and a Essentials Bundle – both include safer, affordable, eco-friendly products that are also really gorgeous. There isn’t much information out there on this box yet, but I took the risk and ordered the first box anyways.  It’s $75/monthly, which is pricey, but B loves it.

    Hey Jen,
I decided to sign up for the monthly Citrus Boxes…however when I “tried” to use the promotion code I couldn’t. I signed up for just 12 months so I believe that I wasn’t able to use it because it’s only good for the “monthly” subsriptions. Just wanted to let you know. I’m excited to recieve my first box.

    Thanks,
    Kristy :)

Thank you so much for reviewing all of these sites as well as listing the detailed reviews (with pictures) of each box you’ve received so far. This was SUPER helpful in deciding what box I was going to give my sister for Christmas. It also inadvertently helped me choose a present for my best friend and possibly a friend of mine who is about to have a baby. Funny thing about the Mantry box….I bought it for myself! I am super jealous of the bourbon themed one as whiskey and bourbon are my thing I loved everything in that box you reviewed.

  14. Christine says:

Have you ever tried the mommebox? and what’s your favorite monthly subscription?

  15. Stephanie Tethrake says:

Ipsy is my fav subscription. It is not loaded with perfume and skincare samples, they often have full size great quality and high end products and sample sizes are generous. Overall, I feel I receive greater value from them than other sub boxes I recieve. IMO, can’t have enough good water proof eyeliners, esp in dif colors. Monthly, I get Ipsy, Birchbox, The Look Bag and Julep.

Have you checked out standardcocoa.com yet? It’s for craft chocolate- I got it as a holiday gift and I’m totally in love! I got the most amazing chocolate this month and can’t wait to see who they’re featuring for January. Total win!

Have you tried Mynt Box? They’re fairly new, but their jewelry looks amazing and for the price it looks like an awesome deal. I’m going to order this month I think. They actually give you 3 to 5 pieces of jewelry every month.

A lot of the boxes reviews I notice on the bottom that it says you were given the box in lieu of reviewing the box. How did you get into that? If you really pay for all of your boxes, how in the world can you afford all of them being a stay at home mom. I am amazed and would love to know the tricks so I being a stay at home mom also can do the same.

    Thanks

I amazed how many subscriptions there is out there. Such a neat idea. I just started receiving Bulu Box. I choose the weight loss box. I also love Birch Box… Bulu Box looks to be modeled after it.

Thanks for the thorough reviews! I already get Citrus Lane (started last month for my 5mo DD) and was debating on Little Pnuts, Stork Stack and Ipsy. After reading all your blogs, (well, most of them) I ended up signing up for Stork Stack today! They have a Vday code, so at least the first month was a discount.

Where do you hear about other monthly discounts?

Also – if you were to compare all the baby boxes, how would you rank them? Thanks so much!!

I love how you have put the pictures here and all. It looks awesome. The Go-TO place for trying out subscription boxes.

So I know it’s not out yet but I’m seriously DYING for the new nail polish subscription box from thenailcollection.com
It seems too good to be true with 4 nail polish bottles from brands including Essie and OPI at $30/month but I’m still gonna try it out to see the truth. Have you anyone here gotten any recent news on that site?

  28. Kris S. says:

What a great post:) Thanks for sharing. We are fans of a lot of the subscription boxes that you shared.
Our kids really enjoy Kiddos Crate over at http://parentstlc.com. They also have a sibling kit for just a few dollars more. One other thing, that I really find rewarding is that. Parents TLC has 3 different subscription box services to choose from. #1 Baby Boutique #2 Mommy & Me and #3 Four-Legged Friends. We also purchased a Baby Boutique subscription box for our little girl (we get a wonderful variety of new clothes for her each month) . Overall, they have created a one stop shop, in which we have not seen with any other subscription box services. But once again, we truly are fans of the subscription box services that a lot of these companies have created. What wonderful services to be apart of. Especially for this SAHM:)

  29. Hey pantyfly.com is pretty awesome. They offer brand name underwear monthly 3 pairs only $7 a month. Shipping is just $1. They seem to be getting good reviews as well. This one might be one to watch!!!!!

I’m up in the air about the fancybox. I was looking at the Jennifer love Hewitt one but since I have no clue what could even be in it I’m stuck. I’ve read your reviews and have seen the pictures of things you have gotten and to be honest I’m not sure any of it is worth the money. I also see that you may have been over charged and that makes me nervous. I’m wondering what everyone else thinks of the fancybox
