Lip Monthly, who kindly sent me this box to review, is a brand new subscription box which offers a curated box of lip products shipped directly to your door every month.

May 2014 Lip Monthly
The Package

Lip Monthly ships via USPS and didn’t take long at all to arrive to me.

Out of the package

I thought the packaging on this was adorable and very well done.  The May 2014 was their first every box, so I was impressed by the cute packaging and fun little box.

In addition to the two products which were too big for the box, there were three other items inside the box.  Considering that the box is $10, I was pretty impressed.

The Information Card

The May 2014 Lip Monthly box doesn’t have a theme, but included the following items which are from both big name and smaller niche brands:

~Glam Natural Poco Loco Lip Gloss ($20):Poco Loco is actually a coral color (I know it looks more pink here) and is very pretty. It stays on for a while and I thought a little went a long way.

~Stila Glaze Lip Liner (Fuchsia) ($5.85): I think this may be discontinued because I cannot find it anywhere but ebay.  The color is a bit much for me, but hopefully it works better for a friend.  If not, I will trade it.

Stila Glaze Lip Liner (Fuchsia)

~Hard Candy Lip Tattoo Lip Gloss ($3.85): I used to love hard candy products but haven’t gotten any in ages.  I’m not even sure they still sell this, but I love the color of the gloss and the clear breathe freshening gloss is pretty cool too.

~Ultrafresh Panthera Mini Mascara ($4.50): I am not familiar with this brand at all, but I read that it used to be sold at Sephora a while back?  I can always use a mini mascara for my bag and I like that they do a “Mix Up” item each month which is not a lip product.

~Bonus Item: Lipology Wet Color Lip Gloss ($6): This is not on the information card, but I am guessing that it’s the bonus item you would get if you do a video review.  It says on the information card that if you do a YouTube review to e-mail the link to Lip Monthly and they will include a bonus item in your next box!

All totaled I came up with a value of $40.20 for the May 2014 Lip Monthly box!  Had I not included the bonus item, it would have still had a value of $34.20.  I am very impressed by the high value of the months, but hope that future months don’t offer quite as many hard to find or discontinued products because I don’t want to fall in love with something I can’t get anymore!

They sell Hard Candy at Wal Mart now! I don’t know if the quality is different than it used to be, but I’ve bought a couple of things and really was pleased.

I have heard that! Do they still have the rings on the polish??

It wouldn’t let me go to the site. It says the site cannot be trusted and I shouldn’t proceed! Any one else anti virus say that and stop them?

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, I don’t know? I have an mac and didn’t get that message??

    2. Jenn

That’s very weird! I’ve been subscribed for a couple of months now, and never saw that.

By the way, very happy with my first box! 🙂 Can’t wait for the next one!

Hey Jen. What boxes would you recommend? I just have birchbox at the moment, so I’d like to get a few more beauty, food, or lifestyle boxes! I love these because you don’t know what your gonna get! I just got on the band wagon and got a 10 month birch box thing while paying for us magazine! SCORE! But I’d like to get some more, becaus from what I hear, it’s like getting little presents each time a box arrives!

I always recommend PopSugar! Glossybox, Wantable and ipsy are great for makeup. Fabfitfun is a good lifestyle one and that’s quarterly. I’d try Love With Food for a food one because you can get your first box for $2 and that is a good way to try it!

It was all over Facebook about this company ripping people off. I would really look into it bc a lot of people trust this site. I posted before saying it wouldn’t let me go to the site, saying it was a dangerous site. Just don’t want people getting scammed :/

Do you have a link? I haven’t seen anything and I have checked their thread at MakeUp Talk? Unless it’s just been in the past few days?

Update on June 4. Major problems for 2 days with the server. Not sure how common or if just me, but their website is just about unusable. To top it off, I sent them a detailed email explaining the nature of the problem, and they did not care enough to reply.

I notice these beauty box companies are mostly very ignorant about marketing, IT and customer service. In fact I have hardly ever seen such poorly run web businesses. Here this company has a key spot as the only box specializing in lips, lips, lips. However, there are numerous other SB’s in that price range. They are going to lose their niche while someone else opens a lips box while they are trying to find out what’s wrong with the computer. I was going to sign up TWO people and now I won’t subject myself to their rudeness.

This sort of arrogance and incompetence is how you lose customers fast. Just from what I’ve seen in the past 2 days, I would bet they will be out of business soon unless they make some drastic management changes.

Thanks for the update! I haven’t had too many problems on their site, but it I’ve only tried it a few times and have never checked out on it!

If you actually read their facebook page you would know they did have a rough start but this is their first box and were not expecting such a high demand. All the shipping mix-ups are being addressed and they are preparing to be on time while updating their packaging for June. If they also had a web issue, then of course it might be a while to get back to you because I assume they are getting lots of emails and are very busy getting two boxes for some people this month.
I signed up for the June box, and though it might be worrying, I’ve got confirmation emails, and I have a little faith. Ipsy had a rough start too you know from what I hear, but now they dominate the market. I would not be so judgey considering it sounds like you are not even a subscriber, and are just fussy that you can not subscribe do to your own computers firewall issues (I would look into that). I recommend you stop being a busy body, really look into it, and have some compassion and faith because even with the mix-ups (and yes, I heard people have cancelled over it) I have yet to hear that anyone actually got ripped off.

Ladies this lipmonthly is a scam first off there products are old and discontinued so there’s no telling on how long they had the products thier distributing I’ve seen some of the same products being sent out on YouTube review that were back in 2013 and I got sucked in onto buying a one month subscription only and received the box after one month and the products were damaged and on top of that they were billing me an additional time when I was already billed for the box when purchased online honestly I truely believed in this company and thought I’d give them a try but it was a huge mistake i even emialed and no response whats so ever and I think it’s a scam wouldn’t recommend at all

  8. Karina
