Yay! WB’s April 2014 Citrus Lane box is here! He’s 24 month-old, so that is age this box is for.  We also received a box for a 47 month-old boy (I always get two Citrus Lane boxes a month), but it was exactly the same as this one, so I won’t do a review on it!  I have to say, it’s super rare that the boxes are totally the same for those age groups and this may be the only time I have ever seen it!

If you aren’t familiar, Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box for babies from 0 to 5 which contains four or more products selected especially for the age and stage of your child. Citrus Lane  is $29/month, but right now (through 4/22/14) they are having their semi-annual sale which gives you 44% off an annual subscription making it only $16.33/month!!

Citrus Lane ships via FedEx Smart Post and took the standard week to arrive.  It was scheduled to arrive tomorrow, so I was lucky to see it today!

First Look

I’d seen various spoilers for this month’s Citrus Lane, but I wasn’t totally sure what we’d be getting for WB’s age group.  I was totally thrilled when I saw this first look because I knew it would be perfect for him!

The Information Card

In honor of Earth Day which is this month, the April 2014 Citrus Lane box included products from partners who focus on eco-friendly design and items that seem to give a nod to the changing season.  Here is what was included:

~Tools & Things from Green Toys (~$10): I think this set is exclusive to CL, so I just estimated the price.  I know want the entire Green Toys toolset!  WB is getting to the age where he wanted to “help” B and I out with things, so this is perfect timing.  Also, why aren’t all screwdrivers labeled like this?  I recall many times my Dad telling me to get a phillips screwdriver and I was all huh?  Which one is that?

~Set of 2 Tumblers from Green Toys ($5.99): So funny, but I just ordered a bunch of Green Toys cups and plates and bowls.  WB has perfected drinking out of a cup and it’s all he likes to drink out of now, so I figured we better stock up!

~Prince’s Bedtime Book & CD Set from Barefoot Books ($9.99): It’s possible we have this book, but I don’t know where it would have come from and I don’t know where it is right now!  It if it a duplicate I will pass it along to my mom to keep at her house or to have up north this summer.

~Lemon Verbena Dish Soap from Mrs. Meyers Clean Day (~$0.50): I was under the (wrong) impression that Meyers soap was expensive.  I clearly was wrong!  I use Honest Co. stuff, but I do like the smell of this more and may have to make the switch every once in a while.

~Greeting Card Offer from Treat ($1): This offer is good for one free card from Treat which we will totally use.  Maybe B will make me one with this code for Mother’s Day!

Greeting Card Offer from Treat

All totaled I came up with a value of $27.48 for the April 2014 Citrus Lane box.  Boxes are $29/month if you opt for the month-to-month option, however, like I mentioned before you can get an annual subscription for $16.33/month right now (through 4/22) which is for sure the way to go!  I would have picked the Green Toys stuff on my own and I will be using the coupon code included to pick up some more Green Toys things (FYI: Green Toys has amazing customer service).

Did you get a Citrus Lane this month?  What age did you get and what came in your box?  If you are interested in subscribing, click here.  Like I mentioned you can take advantage of their semi-annual sale or if you just want to try a box, you can use the coupon code “TAKE20OFF” to save $20 off your first box!  That would make your first Citrus Lane box $9 which is a complete steal!!! You will be enrolled in a monthly subscription (which you can always cancel if you are not happy), but it’s totally an amazing way to try them out!

We got CL for a 26 mo old girl. We got all the same things except for the tools. We got a set of metal flowers where you can interchange the petals, stems and leaves, sort of like a puzzle. Oh, and the cups we got are green. We have a lot of cups, so I’m thinking the cups will actually make a good bath toy.

    1. Jennifer

      Those flowers look so cute.

Cups, any cups are like the biggest hit of a bath toy ever. So odd, but my kids fight over who gets which cup.

I don’t like the idea of gender specific toys. I grew up raised by grandparents and my grandfather was a quadriplegic. From a young age he was the brains and I was the brawn. I know how to use every tool there is now including how to do electrical wiring big and small jobs woodworking all types and tools plumbing small engines etc. I would want my granddaughter to receive the tools also. Just a thought.

I used a code from you to get our first citrus lane box for $9.00. We received our box yesterday, and honestly I was not too thrilled. I cancelled right after opening the box. I was hoping for morem kids items. My daughter is 3 and has been using cups without lids since about2, so the cups were not the exciting or age apporiate for her. She received a flower garden kit, that was actually pretty cute, and she enjoys so that’s a plus. We received a book, i believe it’s skip through the seasons. It looks like an ok book, but again, not quite age apporiate for her. It’s a very simple book, and she likes more in detail stories at this point. I also received the greeting card, and dish soap. These items made no sense to me to be in a child’s box, I mean my ipsy bag doesn’t send kids things, but that’s just my opinion. I did however opt to receive zoobean based off your review, and I think receiving a book every month will be better for our household.

They do typically send a “mom” gift in their boxes. Are you going to try a different kid box? What are you thinking of?

  3. Wow I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a box from CL that was “under valued”. Maybe the green toys are worth more than $10 after all. We got very similar items in our 17 month box. Will link to it once I get my review up although not my favorite CL box that’s for sure.

    1. Jennifer

I totally just guessed at the value. They could be $15. No idea!

  4. Elizabeth

I got the 23 month old girl box with the flowers. The full set of flowers sell for $20. The Citrus Lane set was half the size so it was worth $10. Not one of the most valuable boxes but I really liked it.

    1. Jennifer

      I really want those flowers!

  5. Brianna

Yeah I got this exact box today, and immediately cancelled too. It was super cute, but I guess I was hoping for better value. Glad I played the promo $9, I would have been pretty disappointed with this for $29.

My kid is 20months and can’t sit for that length of a book. I will throw that CD in the car for sure though. He willingly goes to bed @ 7:30… I hope he doesn’t get inspired to stay up. Lol

    1. Jennifer

OMG ha! I would cancel if that book inspired my little guy to fight going to bed. He RUNS to get in bed he’s so excited about it!

  6. Genevieve

E is 16 months so we must have gotten the 1 year old girl box. Her’s had a green toys pink race car, orange snack bowls (set of 4), a book with a CD (we got to choose and picked Over in the Medow), along with the dish soap and the free card offer. Not a wow box but we’ll use everything in it so I’m happy about that. Happy 2nd birthday WB!

    1. Jennifer

Totally not a wow, but totally usable. L was using the Green Toys cups today!

  7. Emmy

Lol my phone acted crazy for a sec, well we just got our first box today and my 3 yr old was super excited about the tools even though he has a ton already. I thought the book was really cute but I was a little disappointed, I thought this box was going to be better based on all the reviews I have read.

    1. Jennifer

I deleted that other one! Maybe next one will be more exciting?

      1. Emmy

        I really hope so

I received a box this month for a 28 month old girl and got the exact same box as you. I was very disappointed to receive tools over flowers, especially since my account was marked as “girl”. I only paid $15 for the box so it was worth at least what I paid. I hope next month they put more than three items in it (the sample size soap and card coupon that you have to pay shipping to get do not really count as items to me). If I had paid full price, I would cancel. It was a disappointing month 🙁

    1. Jennifer

You should e-mail! I thought all the “girl” boxes got the flowers? Those are super cute. I even want them for my boys.

      1. Laura

We got a girl box and no flowers:( Instead we got a Green Toys jump rope, which is something we already have so it too was disappointing. We would have really liked the flowers.

  9. Alicia

Tried using take20off code at checkout, but the was code was kicked out when I finished checkout and I was charged $29 for my first box! 🙁

    1. Jennifer

      Totally e-mail them!

  10. Dee

those flowers sound really cool! i wish my girl box had had them 🙁
    I got 2 boxes.
3.5 year old boy: Green tools (hammer, wrench, pliers, nails), prince bedtime book, cups, dish soap
8 month girl: green toys tug boat (HUH??), bowls, colors board book (not great), dish soap.
overall the boy box was ok (i probably would have paid $9 for the book), but the girl box was not girly and really not appropriate for an 8 month old, very dissapointed. and i’ll be cancelling as soon as i find the magic combination of buttons. it might be just the mobile site, but i cant seem to find an easy way. can anybody tell me how?

    1. Jennifer

I don’t know how to do it on mobile? Its fair easily on the computer though!

  11. Lana

I got a girl 3 year old or 37 month box, and its very similar. Instead of tools, we got a flower game, and we got that seaons book that some people got before. http://wp.me/p4lGPl-9D

    1. Jennifer

I am jealous of those flowers!

  12. Lana

I know, the flowers are great. I am not sure why they decided they are for girls only.

  13. Allison Munden

I got a 4 month old girl box. We had Green Toys Teether key ring (LOVE), A blue rabbit lovie that we picked (for Easter basket), a 4 level stacking snack cup (not bad for when she is alot older since she doesnt eat solids yet, lol this one didnt make sense to me). The card and the dish soap. A decent box. What was the Green Toys code you have? I accidently threw away our info card. I want to get the flowers, the girls tool box, and the tea set for when she is older!

    1. Jennifer

You know, I think it was 20% off, but I can’t recall the exact code (and don’t have my sheet handy), however, you could just pick them up from the Citrus Lane shop?? They have a 20% off code right now too!

    2. we have a 4 stacking snack cup (which I got in CL as well when my daughter was an infant) and it’s awesome! You’ll appreciate it in a few months! (especially if its the same one – was it Zoli brand and round?)

    1. Jennifer

We got that race car a while ago. The kids still use it!
