February 2014 Birchbox

My February 2014 Birchbox is still in-transit, but Birchbox ended up sending me one for review as well, which happened to arrive yesterday!  I thought I’d review both of them this month just to give you an idea of the variations that boxes can have.

February 2014 Birchbox
The Box

Birchbox ships via UPS Mail Innovations and usually takes under a week to arrive to me.  I wasn’t sure what was in this box (since it wasn’t mine I couldn’t peek at the contents online), but I had a good impression of it from the box itself!

The Box in the Box

The inner box was the same regular Birchbox box.  If you save your Birchbox boxes, what do you do with them?  I’d love to hear / see some ideas!

First Look

This is so lame of me, but I love when Birchbox uses those pillow box envelopes.  It’s like you are getting a surprise box with another surprise box in it!  This February 2014 Birchbox was Box #9 (*).  To find out what box # you got, go into your account and click on “Box” and then “Women’s Box”.  Scroll down to the “Box History” section and then click on “February 2014″.  The last number in your URL is your box number (mine says “bb9″ – meaning I have Box #9).  I explained how to review products for points a few months ago, so if you missed that, check it out here.

The Information Card

The February 2014 Birchbox theme was “Step and Repeat” and a partnership between Birchbox and the Beauty Editors of US Weekly to share some of the expert’s red car[et secrets.  Here is what was included in this one:

~Beauty Protector Protect & Oil (~$2): I really like this hair oil, but I do not like the container it’s in.  I think the full size comes in a spray (?), but this is just a jar of oil which is messy for someone like me.  LOL!  But again, the oil itself is great. It smells good and kept those fly aways in place.

~Dr. Brandt Pores No More Pore Refiner ($11.25): Wow, this stuff is like magic.  I really did think it made my skin look smoother and my pores less noticeable.  I will for sure be picking up the Camera Ready Kit with the full size of this in the shop.  For sure!

~Juicy Couture Couture La La Malibu ($1.44): I usually do like Juicy perfumes and this one was no exception. I really like it and cannot stop smelling my wrists.  I also love that I finally love a scent that is not $100+ per bottle!

~Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish (Kitten Heels) ($4.67): Well you know I love this. This polish is pink inside and turns into a red outside.  SO cool!  And seriously it works.  I have bought a Ruby Wing polish in the past (maybe even this color I will have to look) and it totally changes.

~32 Oral Care Effervescent Breath Crystals with IsoVoxy ($1.33):  I’ve never seen these before and I never thought that I would think that breath mints were fun, but these are.  I will probably grab more just for the fun aspect.

All totaled my 2014 February Birchbox had a value of $20.69.  Including the points I’d get for reviewing the products, assuming I bought the box that is, (which is equal to $5) the box had a real total value of $23.07.  Not a crazy “valuable” Birchbox by any means, but I really enjoyed these items and think maybe I will need to tweak my profile since this wasn’t “my” box, but was a great fit for me anyway!

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? Did you get your box yet this month? What number was it and what was in it?  If you don’t subscribe (it’s only $10/month) and are interested in learning more, click here.  Last I heard the wait list was only taking a few days (I’d love if someone could verify this though) so it might be a great time to join!

Disclosure: This complimentary box was received for review purposes. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.
(*) If you want to see all the boxes this month, click here and change the 1 at the end to anything from a 2 to 63 since there were 63 (in comparison, last month there were 84 box variations) box variations this month.  Once again it was an insane number of boxes this month!!
(**) You only get points for purchasing the box if you buy an annual subscription (or 3-month, 6-months, etc.). You don’t get points if you are on a month to month subscription.

I got a totally diffferent box. I don’t know how to add a photo to a comment, and that trick with which number box doesn’t work for me. I think maybe bbecause I am on a monthly subscription? 🙁 I posted a picture online though! I am very happy with the creams.

    1. Jennifer

How does it not work? It should work for everyone? I get a monthly subscription too?

I am on an Ipad…my url just says birchbox.com no matter what I click. Weird. I will try on a big computer when I get a chance, just to test this theory out 🙂

Copy the URL from your iPad and paste it somewhere. It’s there.

I love reusing my birchbox boxes for gifts! I usually wrap the top half and leave the bottom as is, then tie the closed box with a ribbon. Unless I tear the inside tissue paper, I keep that in the box as well. Looks really cute, and they can be used again and again.

    1. Jennifer

      That’s a cute idea!!

  3. alison

I got Juicy Couture Couture La La Malibu too and I REALLY liked it!

    1. Jennifer

I might have to buy a bottle!

  4. Genevieve

I had box 47. I had the sparkly gold nail polish which made the whole box worth it to me! I also received the shampoo and conditioner which smell wonderful. I have to see if they carry them at Ulta. The conditioner had a little mishap but it only leaked a little and didn’t get on anything else. The poor box however looked like it had been punt kicked into the truck. There was also a perfume and a skin lotion sample. I think I’m going to order that pore stuff – had wanted to get a sample but planned on ordering the kit when I saw the youtube video.

I save the Glossybox boxes but not the birchbox ones – haven’t found a use for them yet. Can’t wait to hear everyone’s ideas!

    1. Jennifer

Are you going to email them? They usually are good about that time of thing!

I got box 41 – I totally didn’t realize they did that many variations. That is nuts! Anyway, I got Fekkai shampoo and conditioner (amazing by the way), Harvey Prince Hello perfume which smells great, a couple of teas, and Coastal Scents Eye Shadow mini palette. My fave by far is the shampoo/conditioner – seriously my hair feels better than any other I’ve used. Even though its pricey I may have to start buying it….eek! I normally buy $5 shampoo/conditioner at the drug store LOL. I would have loved to get the pore cream you got!

    1. Jennifer

Ohhh I used use that fekkai and always loved it! That hello perfume is fabulous too!!

  6. Lana

This was my first Birchbox – I seemed to be a little behind the ball on that one! I got box 12, and it had that hair oil as well. It seems like a great product, but I think got more on my hands than on my hair the first time I used it!

My box also contained the Juicy perfume, some Ahmad tea samples, the Ayres bar soap, and a full size Cynthia Rowley Liquid Liner, which alone was worth the price of the box for me 🙂

    1. Jennifer

For sure needs a better applicator but I bet the full size is much different!

  7. Catherine Faulkenburg

I got box 11. I love the hair oil also and am seriously considering a purchase. We’ll see. I got that perfume too and HATED it. It gave me a serious headache. And it made me feel old.

    1. Jennifer

Lol. Which was it. I’m getting a different perfume in my box than this juicy one!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks!

  8. I also received a totally different box and was disappointed this month. I have a stack of the super cute boxes as well – need ideas for how to use them!!

    1. Jennifer

What’d you get in your box?

  9. Ruth Gilbert

I get Birchbox for my teenage daughter so she can try some new products and she just loves it. After seeing that pore refiner, I think I will be purchasing that camera ready kit as well. Definitely not something my daughter needs, but I was just looking in the mirror the other day and thought, “Who is this chick with those wrinkles.” UGH! It probably didn’t help that I have had a yucky virus for a week and my skin looks like crud, but still!

    1. Jennifer

It’s fabulous. I was really happy!!

  10. Lisa

I got the Protect & Oil, Cynthia Rowley liquid liner, Eleven Skin Rescue Omega 3 Serum, Joan Vass perfume sample & 32 Oral Care breath crystals. I have not been too happy with BIRCHBOX lately & decided to cancel. I decided to try GlossyBox & Boxy Charm. I do keep my boxes & use them for birthday gift boxes or to send my niece any makeup that I get that I don’t use.

    1. Jennifer

Tell me about Boxy Charm! I have never gotten one.

  11. Erin

I am not sure what box # I got but I got Camille Beckman hand therapy in monarch sent. Dr. Brandt no more pores, which I love. Eyeko skinny liquid eye liner.( I don’t wear) Harvey Prince Hello which I love, and the 32 Oral care effervescent breath crystals.

    1. Jennifer

      Love HP Hello!

  12. Judy

I use my Birchboxes to organize and store my makeup and samples! 🙂

I’m jealous of everyone who received the color changing polish or the colored top coat! I may have to swap for those…

I’m receiving the box #45, which has the SARAHPOTEMA half-up, tea, Whish body butter, Paula’s Choice RESIST antioxidant concentrate serum and the W3LL People Universalist Multi-Color Stick sample. I already tried the body butter in the past and wasn’t a huge fan. The multi-color sample is extremely small and I’m not that excited about the serum. I think I would have liked this box better if two of my samples hadn’t been replaced this month instead of one. My box could have been better, but I also didn’t get the worst one out there, so I’m not complaining too much!

    1. Jennifer

Not a bad box, but yes, it could have been better for sure!

  13. Susan

My box was just meh this month, maybe even a punishment box since there was tea in it. I got box 50, which included Serge Normant dry conditioner, pore refiner, miracle skin face spotlight, La La Malibu perfume and tea. The only items I am excited to try are the face spotlight and perfume. I don’t use dry shampoo or conditioner, so those samples are always a waste for me.

    1. Jennifer

Oh I bet you can trade that serge dry conditioner! That stuff is fabulous!

    1. Jennifer

      Thanks!

  14. Hannah

Sorry, I already posted this on January’s post, but just realized you had posted a February one.

I only waited 4 days to receive my BirchBox subscription! I was very pleased & I just got an email saying my first box has shipped! 6 days total from deciding on getting BirchBox to having my box shipped!
This blog is great 🙂 I?ve heard mixed reviews on BB, but this blog makes me even more excited, especially since it seems that BB has great customer service.
Can?t wait to see what everyone, including myself, get in their February boxes!

    1. Jennifer

That is pretty quick!!! I get so impatient when I have to wait to buy something!

  15. Skylar

I save every box I get! So far I only have 2 of Glossybox, Birchbox, and Ispy bags. I’ve been using them for bathroom cabinet storage. One Glossybox holds nail related items (clippers, files, buffers, nail polish – but it’s almost too small now!) and the other holds all my face mask products that I get from various boxes/Christmas. My Birchboxes hold pads so that they take up less space and look more discrete. I plan on buying some chalkboard labels to put on my boxes so I can stack them and know what’s in each box. Plus I’d think the chalkboard label would look cute on the side of all the boxes! I have 2 Ipsy bags so far and those have been to discretely store tampons. Not only are my bathroom cabinets more organized and have more space, but if a guest were to look they wouldn’t see pads and tampons everywhere. As I get more I’ll be finding more ways to use them around the house!

    1. Jennifer

The glossybox boxes are so pretty I can never throw them away!!!

  16. Bethany

There really are a ton of variations! I didn’t get anything in this box! That nail polish looks awesome. I hope that Birchbox gives previous months’ samples to others in future months who didn’t get them!

    1. Jennifer

      They sometimes do!
