Fancy Food Box
May Fancy Food Box

My original Fancy Food Box plan was to try it for a month and then be done with it.  Ha!  I loved the first one so much that I am continuing my subscription.  This is now my 3rd box!!  I mention it every month, but Samplrs was taken over by Fancy and is now called the Fancy Food Box. Each Fancy Food Box includes five or more food products – anything from cookies and chocolates to teas and sauces – along with a selection of tasty recipes and pairing suggestions for $47.95/month ($39 + $7.95/shipping).

The Box

How cute is this purple box?  I love it.  I think I have gotten every color in Fancy Box has to offer now and this one is totally my favorite.  When I saw it in my neighbors garage (yeah, I got so many packages while I was gone she had to store them in the garage – she’s lucky she could still get her car in there), I was excited!

First Look

I always love to see what items they will pick for the box.  It’s usually things my local store(s) don’t stock, which is perfect because I don’t usually roam around online looking for new foods to try you know?

Fancy Food Box
The Information Cards

The Fancy Food Box included six items this month, which seems to be about normal for them.  And yes, I still love the cards.  Who doesn’t?  Here’s what the May Fancy Food Box included this month:

~Dave’s Gourmet Butternut Squash Pasta Sauce ($8.99): Mmmm, pasta! i know I am going to totally love this and I am thinking it’s going to be my favorite item in the box. I want to have this with spaghetti squash, but can anyone give me some tips on how to make it? I am always just lost once I cut into the squash? What’s the easiest way to turn it into spaghetti?

~Sir Kensington’s Chipotle Mayonnaise ($5): We have gotten Sir Kensington’s Ketchup in a few boxes and enjoyed it, so I am excited to try the mayo. And I can’t wait to see what fancy dish B is going to whip up with this!

~479 Popcorn (Sea Salt Caramel) ($1.58): I have received this in a few boxes (maybe Love With Food and for sure Citrus Lane) and liked it. Okay fine, I loved it. It’s totally delicious and while I do like to try new things, I was happy to see this in the box!

~479 PopCorn (Black Truffle + White Cheddar) ($3.83): Now this is an interesting combination. I tried it right away because it had me so intrigued and I found it to be quite good. I probably wouldn’t buy a bag in the store on my own, but I mean I’m not going to throw this bag in the trash!

~TAZA Chocolates (Salted Almond and Vanilla) ($13.48 – $6.74/each): What could be wrong with chocolate? Nothing!! I love dark chocolate and will happily eat these before Monday comes and I have to stop pretending I am still on vacation ;).  And oh, you might not be able to tell from this picture, but these are huge discs of chocolate ;)!

~Field Trip All Natural Beef Jerky (Teriyaki) ($6): If there was a beef jerky subscription box, B would be all over it. He was so excited to see this in the box and opened it right away. I think not having beef jerky for over a week on the ship was too much! He confirmed that this was delicious. I personally think beef jerky is stinky. Does anyone else think that?

~Cooking Guide Apron ($19.95): I don’t believe I have ever worn an apron while cooking, but you know who has? B! At first I was wondering how you are suppose to read an apron you are wearing, but it’s all printed upside-down. Duh me. B will totally wear this (although he saw it and thinks it’s for me since I am clueless in the kitchen) and look good in it!

All totaled I came to a value of $58.83 for this month’s Fancy Food Box.  More than the $46.95 cost of the box and way more than the $26.95 that I paid since I had a $20 (or $25) coupon code! I love this subscription and it’s one of the few B is interested in when I open as well.

Did you get a Fancy Food Box this month?  What’d you think?  If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here.  Ohh, and if you are having trouble finding the different Fancy boxes, just do a search for “Fancy Box” and they will all come up!  I can’t find any coupon codes right now (“20OFF16” expired), but check “20OFF17” tomorrow or the next day because there usually isn’t long in between codes!

  1. For Spaghetti Squash, you take an actual Spaghetti Squash, cut it in half, bake cut side up for 30-40 mins at 375 degrees, let cool slightly, then take a fork and run it lengthwise down each squash half to loosen strands, making “spaghetti”.

I love 479 degree popcorn. It’s available at Cost Plus World Market, as is Dave’s Gourmet now that I think about it.

I was able to purcahse the box at a discounted rate thanks to you! Like you, I was simply trying it out for one month. But after receiving this box, I think I’m hooked. So far, I’ve enjoyed everything I tried. The jerky was great. After Mantry, this is my favorite food sub (though I like Fancy’s price better than Mantry’s).

Spaghetti squash is pretty easy to cook! Just slice it in half lengthwise & remove seeds. Brush with some olive oil & bake with the cut side down on a cookie sheet at 350 until it pierces easily with a fork (I can’t remember how long it usually takes). Flip it over & use a fork to make the strands.

Hi, for the squash you precook it, you can poke it all over and microwave it, slice in half and cook in the oven or poke it and boil it. After its cooked you use a fork to scrape out the strands and then add your sauce or whatever it is you are using it for. You can cook it on the grill but I have yet to master it. But you have to cook it before you can scrape the stuff out. Happy eating

Fancy box question for you…I bought or signed up for the Jennifer Love Hewitt box on 5/1…and my order still says status is payment received…when in the world do they ship? It’s been 19 days!

    1. Jeanette

@Jenna: Your box will ship at the end of the month.

i usually put the spaghetti squash in a large microwaveable bowl with water and cook for about 10 minutes (poke holes in it first). Then let it cool down, slice in half, and scoop with fork. that’s how it gets to be like pasta. i love that dave sauce, but actually think it would hold up better with pasta than the squash. i like to use it with fancy ravioli (like goat cheese and walnut) from trader joes.
