Sunday Social

I am, once again, linking up with Ashley and Neely for today’s Sunday Social.

1. What is your shopping weakness?
Kids clothes for sure. I cannot go to Target or BabyGap without browsing through their clearance section. And sunglasses. I love sunglasses. But it’s not just like $10 sunglasses, which wouldn’t be so bad. It’s designer sunglasses. I see them (like the ones I am hoping B gets me below) and I just fall in love.

Wouldn’t you be in love too?

2. What is your food weakness?
Ice cream. I didn’t have to think about this at all. I don’t care if it’s 10 degrees it, I still want some ice cream. And I eat it in a mug. Not a bowl. A mug. Does anyone else do this? We always did it growing up and I do it now. I think it drives B nuts.

Cannot wait to see this at Kroger!

3. What is your go to movie to watch when nothing is on?
I feel like you can’t go wrong with Crazy Stupid Love. Or heck, even Top Gun. Mean Girls and Clueless are up there too. Even if somethingis on and I come across one of these movies, I must stop everything an watch it. In full.

A classic

4. What is your go to breakfast food?
Lately I’ve been eating like bananas and hard boiled eggs (thanks to the Advocare 24-Day Challenge) and things along those lines, but I really like to eat LUNA bars for breakfast. I don’t know when other people eat them, but I like them for breakfast. ThinkThin bars are good too.

Chocolate Peppermint is the best

5. Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you take it?
I wish I was one of those people that like just plain old coffee. But no, I need it all fancy. My favorite coffee drink (right now) is the chocolate chip frappe from McDonalds. I am pretty sureit has no less than 1,000 calories and 50 grams of fat in it, so yeah, it’s super healthy. You know what I should do if I want one? I should WALK there and drag the kids in the wagon. Now that’s a thought!! I might not want it as much after that work to get there you know?

April Hello Flo Review

Hello Flo

April Hello Flo

One of the boxes I received during this week’s subscription box bonanza happened to be HelloFlo. HelloFlo is a monthly subscriptions service for your period. Each month you can expect to receive tampons as well as some back up protection like pads and pantiliners. You can select your flow level (Low Flo, Medium Flo, Heavy Flo or Short & Heavy) and they will send you exactly what you need.  They will also send some fun and tasty treats as a pick-me-up.

Hello Flo

The Box

When I first saw the box, I couldn’t figure out what it was or who it was from. And then it dawned on me. That was the point. You don’t want to end up feeling awkward carrying the box in from the mailbox and running into your neighbors or getting it delivered and work with all your co-workers around you know?

Hello Flo

First Look

I hadn’t seen any pictures of Hello Flo boxes, so I wasn’t sure what to expect for the treats, but when I saw that red and white chevron, I knew I was going to be happy!

Hello Flo

The Note

Since this was my first box, my note welcomed me to Hello Flo and explained a little about the service.  It doesn’t discuss the products or what to do with them because I am pretty sure you know.

~The Supplies:  I can’t remember if I picked Light Flo or Medium Flo, but it was one of those.  You enough tampons to get you through, plus you get a selection of pads and pantyliners.  It didn’t say what brands to expect, but I was happy to see they were tampax.

Hello Flo

The Supplies

The Treats: I love that they went a little outside the box and didn’t just send a few chocolates.  Gummy bears are one of my favorite treats (no matter what time of the month it is) and I’ve never had Pocky Sticks, but I could totally get into them.  They are chocolate cream covered biscuit sticks, which are a favorite in Japan.

Hello Flo

The Treats

~The Handmade Box:  Since it was my first box, they included a handmade chevron box to use to store my supplies.  I LOVE this little box.  I don’t want to put it under my sink because I want to see it more it’s that cute!  I’ll figure something out though!

Hello Flo

The Extra Treat

I didn’t do a total value on Hello Flo like I do with most boxes because they don’t bill themselves as a subscription to save you money.  It’s a service.  They’ll send you what you need, when you need it.  You won’t have to worry about running out at the last minute because you ran out of stuff.  It’ll all be in your mailbox a few days before you need it!

What do you think about Hello Flo?  Is it a service you could see yourself using?  If you want to subscribe or learn more, click here.

Bestowed Box Review + A Giveaway

Bestowed

Bestowed is a monthly subscription box that offers 5+ amazing nutrition and lifestyle products delivered to your door every month – each one hand picked by celebrity nutritionist and author Heather Bauer. It’s $19/month and delivers around the 15th of the month.

Bestowed

The Box

The minute I pulled this out of the mailbox, I knew it was the box for me. It’s orange!!! And it ships via USPS and came very quickly. What’s not to love?

Bestowed

First Look

I wasn’t sure what to expect from Bestowed, but I was excited to see lots of full sized products in the box. The box was nice and full and was pretty heavy!

Bestowed

The Information Card

Bestowed doesn’t have just a little information card, they have a full page sheet which includes product names, “why we love” and “two tips” for each item.  I love that include so much information about the products so you don’t have to go searching about how they should be used or what they will do for you.

~EBoost ($2.80): I’ve tried EBoost before and it is good.  And since I have given up soda and get bored with just water, these come at a perfect time.  They can be used while traveling (aka when you are around extra germs on an airplane) or for a mid-afternoon pickup instead of the usual cup of coffee!

Bestowed

EBoost

~iTrain ($25 Gift Card): I think I am going to download a few of their iTread workouts and give them a try.  I get SO bored on the treadmill and maybe mixing it up with a SET workout would make it more fun!

Bestowed

iTrain

~Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts ($2.99): I have never heard of hemp hearts before and am very intrigued.  They are loaded with protein and vitamins and are a great way to add essential omegas and protein in your diet.  Bestowed suggested sprinkling them on your salad instead of croutons or mixing in your yogurt, which I am going to try, but I think I am also going to try baking with them.  Maybe into some sort of protein bar?  I need to do a little research on this, but I am sure there is a way!

Bestowed

Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts

~Kind Healthy Grains Oats & Honey Clusters ($5.99): Ohhh, I love granola, but unless you are careful you could end up with a granola packed with sugar and fat.  And that’s not exactly healthy you know?  Kind isn’t like that and I am excited to start my day with this!

Bestowed

Kind Healthy Grains Oats & Honey Clusters

~Oloves Hot Chilli Mama Olives ($1.59): We got the lemony flavor in this month’s Love With Food and B LOVED them.   So when he saw these he was thrilled.  They are already gone.  And B said they were amazing!!!!

Bestowed

Oloves Hot Chilli Mama Olives

~Nektar Honey Crystals ($0.80): It’s possible I am the only person on the planet who doesn’t like Greek yogurt, so I like the idea of using these to sweeten it up a little.  And also like that you get the benefits of honey without the mess!

Bestowed

Nektar Honey Crystals

~Gnu Foods Hi-Fiber Minis ($4): These little mini bars are probably what I am most excited about.  They have only 70 calories, but are packed with beneficial nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and phytonutrients.  Bestowed suggests pairing them with your morning yogurt or replacing your mid-morning snack with one and I am going to do just that!

Bestowed

Gnu Foods Hi-Fiber Minis

All totaled my Bestowed box has a value of $43.17.  Pretty good considering that the box is only $19/month!  I love that it has introduced me to new products and given me ideas to change up my routine.

The folks at Bestowed wanted to give you a chance to try their box, so they are giving one away!  Just enter below for your chance to win.

Do you subscribe to Bestowed?  What’d you think of this month’s box?   If you are interested in subscribing or want to learn more, click here.   You can even use the code “5OFFBESTOWED01″ to save $5 off your first box!  Can’t beat that!

April Birchbox Review

Birchbox

April Birchbox

My April Birchbox seemed to take forever to get to me this month. I know they ship them out in waves and mine must have shipped in one of the later waves. I knew what was in it (I always peek), but it’s still nice to actually get it in your hands.

Birchbox

The Box

I am skipping the picture of the outer box this month because it was the same as always. But the inner box was wrapped in a special sleeve to celebrate the colaboration with Women’sHealth.  I love Birchbox special edition boxes.  They pair up with some fun companies and it keeps them fresh!

Birchbox

First Look

I can’t explain why, but I get really excited when I see that the some of the items are wrapped, or in this case, in a special sleeve.  I mean, I know what they are, but more unwrapping makes them even more fun!

Birchbox

The Information Card

The April Birchbox theme is “tiny tweaks, big results” and was a joint effort between Birchbox and Women’sHealth.  This month’s box was put together by the beauty and wellness experts at Women’sHeath and was designed to help you fine-tune your lifestyle. I received box #38 (*) this month (there were 40 total boxes).  Here’s what was inside:

~Skin&Co Bagnodoccia Body Gel ($2.80): I’m not sure how to describe the scent of this shower gel, but I don’t love it.  It kind of reminds me of what I’d use at a fancy hotel. I don’t hate it, but it’s not something I would buy for myself.

Birchbox

Skin&Co Bagnodoccia Body Gel

~Nexxus® Youth Renewal™ Rejuvenating Elixir ($3): This is a shine boosting serum for your hair which is suppose to cure dry strands and age related breakage.  I have been using Moroccan Oil and have been loving it, so I can’t wait to see how this compares!

Birchbox

Nexxus® Youth Renewal™ Rejuvenating Elixir

~StriVectin-SD™ Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles ($16): I got a sample of a different type of StriVectin-SD in my January bluum box and loved it, so I was super excited that my box included this.  I am on the hunt for a good eye cream and maybe this will be it!

Birchbox

StriVectin-SD™ Eye Concentrate for Wrinkles

~Youngblood Anti-Shine Mattifier ($7.20): For some reason, I expected this to be a full size, so I was a little disappointed to hear that it wasn’t.  This shine-zapping balm is applied on the T-zone before applying foundation to get a matte finish.  This has me totally interested and I wonder how it’s going to work!  I will for sure report back on this because I don’t know if I have ever seen a product like this.  Have you??

Birchbox

Youngblood Anti-Shine Mattifier

~Weleda Body Lotion ($0.94): I don’t know if I have ever tried tried anything from Weleda before (maybe I have tried their baby line), but these seem great.  I love that they included various scents so you can smell them all!

Birchbox

Weleda Body Lotion

~Women’sHealth Subscription ($9.99): This month’s box also includes an annual subscription to Women’sHealth magazine.  But if you are not interested in that, you can request a refund which would make this box FREE for you!  I think I am going to subscribe though because I could use some health info!

Birchbox

Women’sHealth Subscription

All totaled, I came up with a value of $39.93 for the April Birchbox. Plus the $5 in points I will get for reviewing the items and the $1 (**) I got for buying the box brings the value to $45.93. Awesome since the box only costs $10. I love seriously Birchbox and will likely always subscribe.

Do you subscribe to Birchbox? What’d you get in this month’s box? And if you don’t subscribe and want to get on the waiting list (does anyone know how long it is right now) or just want to learn more, click here!

(*) If you want to see the other boxes from this month, go here and just change the 1 at the end of the html anywhere from 2 to 40.
(**) I bought a year in advance. I don’t think you get the points when you do it month to month.

Saturday Smiles

Ramblings of a Suburban Mom

Today I’m smiling because:

~They caught the guy. You all know what I am talking about. And the people coming out in the streets to cheer the police officers, swat teams, etc. made me tear up just a little. Boston, you are one amazing city.

~B didn’t get to see L on his birthday, but we made sure to make him a video. And L was all into it. Usually he’s annoyed when I want him to do a video on command, but not for B! And yes, he picked his own outfit. Like how short the sleeves on that shirt are? That’s my fault for not removing it from his closet ;) .

~B is almost done with school for the semester. And I am sort of smiling because I think he’s cute that he hasn’t skipped a class once. I was quite the skipper and didn’t think twice about it. Not B!

~L doesn’t know it yet, but he and B are going to a birthday party today at a new trampoline park by our house. OMG he is going to LOVE it! I cannot wait until he finds out!

~As you know, WB turned one yesterday and while I can’t believe he not my baby anymore, I am smiling because I have successfully completed his monthly onesie pictures! The first few months were easy and then he started to move. OMG why didn’t anyone tell me it was so hard to get a baby to sit still on command??

~My girl Jen is running the Blue Ridge Marathon today and I thought about her (and all marathoners) yesterday when I was testing my new shoes out on the treadmill.  I was beat after 30 minutes on that thing.  Marathon runners amaze me!

~B shaved off his “pinies” (L’s term for facial stubble off a few days)!  I was seriously scared he’d start to grow a beard (he threatened it), but thank goodness he didn’t!

No more pinies!

~B’s brother’s wife (aka my SIL) sent me a couple of hysterical pictures she found of him and his brothers back in the day.  OMG.  Hysterical.  I don’t think B will care if I post one of them, so here you go.  He’s the smallest one with no pants on.  I think they are in the wheelbarrow ;) .

B as a kid

That’s it from here!  What’s got you smiling today?

April bluum Box Review

bluum

April bluum Box

My April bluum box arrived nice and quickly this month and I am hoping this new trend means that their shipping woes are totally over.

bluum

The Box

bluum ships in the same sized box every month and it’s a way bigger box than the older bluum boxes.  They ship via USPS and like with some of my other boxes this month, my tracking didn’t update until it was out for delivery.

bluum

First Look

The box seemed a tad light this month, but I was still excited to see what was inside.  I think I mentioned it before, but I aged WB up a few months, so he gets the 15 month box instead of the 12 month-old box.

bluum

The Information Card

I mention it every time, but bluum doesn’t have a true information card.  Instead, they have a card which describes that month’s theme (ours was “Cuddle Time”) and a little about your baby’s age and a general discussion about the items in the box.  On the day your box is delivered, you get an e-mail with the box contents and a description of each item.  Here’s what was in our Cuddle Time box:

~Sign and Sing Along: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star ($4.49):  I cannot wait to read / sing this to WB.  He LOVES singing and following along to songs with hand movement.  Patty cakes(*) is his favorite right now, but he’s game for most songs!

bluum

Sign and Sing Along: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

~Totlogic – Bubble Bath ($12.75): This will likely end up getting used by L more because WB doesn’t demand bubble baths like L does.  However, unlike L when he was a baby, WB doesn’t mind bubbles.  Maybe it’s because he sees L enjoying them?

bluum

Totlogic – Bubble Bath

~Angel Dear – Blankie ($13): WB does not have a cuddle buddy and instead just prefers the comfort of his thumb.  But I suspect that one day he will need one and I am going to offer this to him.  It’s adorable and so soft and snuggly!

bluum

Angel Dear – Blankie

~Babyganics-Apple Berry ($5.24): I knew this looked familiar and I went back and looked and yeah, I got this in my March bluum box too.  I don’t mind having two because you can never have enough lip balm, but I would have preferred something I had never tried before.

bluum

Babyganics-Apple Berry

~Baby Soy Usa – O Soy Sig. Socks (Grass) ($4): Do babies like to cuddle with socks on?  Because yeah, WB doesn’t.  No matter how cold his feet are, he will NOT keep them on.    I will certainly use these, but with shoes!

bluum

Baby Soy Usa – O Soy Sig. Socks (Grass)

~Happy Family – Happy Yogi ($4.21): WB loves these (they are actually quite yummy) so I was thrilled to see these in the box!  There are some snacks that when WB sees them he goes CRAZY and this is one!

bluum

Happy Family – Happy Yogi

~Luna Bar – Chocolate Peanut Protein Bar ($2): I LOVE Luna bars so I was super excited to see this in the box! I can’t eat it just yet (soon though, soon), but I am ready for when I can!

bluum

Luna Bar – Chocolate Peanut Protein Bar

All totaled I came up with a value of $45.69 for the April bluum “Cuddle Time” box. It’s not my favorite bluum box ever, but that’s how it goes, you love some and some are just okay and I get that!

Did you get an April bluum box? What’d you think? And what was your theme and what all came in your box? I’d love to hear! If you don’t subscribe and want to, or just want to learn more, click here.

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links.
(*) I did a google search this morning to check the spelling of patty cakes (is it patty cake or pat-a-cake) and I learned there are MANY versions of the song. And my version is none of them. LOL.

Friday’s Letters

Dear Ryan Lochte, I’m sorry, but I was CRACKING up at this interview you did. But I will admit, you are insanely good looking though and I am certainly going to watch your reality show.

Dear TMZ, Why in the world did you ruin my eyesight forever with those pictures of Tanning Mom on the beach? My eyes will never recover. And Tanning Mom, who in the world wanted those pictures??

Dear Me, Stop reading TMZ.

Dear My Fitbit Challenge Ladies, It’s ON. I’m going to need to learn to walk and type because this challenge is serious business. There are prizes involved and I want to WIN!

Dear WB, Now that you are no longer a baby, is it really okay to continue to call you WB? Should I will have to call you WK (Willie Kid) now? We’ll see.

Dear Susan L, For some reason, I cannot respond to any of your comments. My e-mails always get sent back to me ;(. Don’t think I am ignoring you okay? I wanted to discuss Javi’s proposal on Teen Mom!!! Who else is going to talk to me about this?

Dear L, I am so glad that you finally found a tv show we both like. Garfield. Now that is a good cartoon! I love me some Odie. That is one cute dog!

Dear This Week, I believe it goes without saying, but you have been totally awful. Boston. The letters. Texas ;(. But I have to say that I was reminded this week that there is more good than evil in this world and for that I am thankful.

Friday iPhone Dump

If you feel like linking up and showing off your weekly iPhone pictures grab the button and link-up below!  If not, that’s cool too.

1. While at Costco this week I came across this.  Someone please tell me you think it looks like a beer bong too.  I am certain L would love this, but I would feel like everyone was staring at me in the sandbox ;) .

2. It’s hard to believe it, but one day that’s going to be ALL houses.  But for now we use it to explore and drive and be super loud!  And can you see Baxter in this picture?  When L gets out of his car Baxter always does too and he just started trotting off.  I feared he was going to just walk all the way home because he’d had enough, but once L got back in his car, he came running!

3. I gave WB a popsicle yesterday after lunch and I don’t think he was a fan.  He kept trying it like he did, but the faces he was making told me otherwise.  I gotta give him a different flavor next time.  And yeah, he still had his pjs on at lunch.

4. B’s Julibox (minus the mixers which come separate) came yesterday which was perfect for his birthday!!  I hope to have my review up on it later, but know that he LOVED it and wants to make these drinks like now!

5. This is one of WB’s first pictures.  This was *maybe* 5 minutes after he was born?  Ugh.  Just looking at that little WB makes me want another one.  Maybe I’ll be one of those people who doesn’t even know they are pregnant and just wake up one day with a stomachache and have it turn out I’m in labor?  A girl can dream.

6. L doesn’t have school today (*) so he spent the night at my parents last night.  For some reason, he likes to watch movies in the back of their mini-van (when it’s parked of course).  I can kinda see the appeal of that for a little kid.  And eating lunch back there while watching a movie is even better.  He’s so stinkin cute!!!!

And that’s it.  Only 6 pictures this week!  We’ve got a busy day today, but I hope to get some box reviews up!  I mean, just because it’s your birthday doesn’t mean you don’t have to nap!!

April Barkbox Review

Barkbox

April Barkbox

As you can probably tell, today was a CRAZY day for subscription boxes. I got six in the mail today plus one from UPS. Wow! One of those boxes happened to be the furries April Barkbox. Of course they MADE me open it for them right away, so they could dig right into it. If you don’t already know, Barkbox is a monthly subscription box for dogs. Packages start at $29/month, $23/month for 3-months or $18/month for 6-months. As luck would have it, they also happen to be on Fab.com right now! You can get 3 months for $49 (reg. $69).

Barkbox

The Box

Barkbox ships USPS and seemed to come pretty fast this month. I wasn’t expecting it this quickly and all of a sudden it arrived. Is anyone else noticing this about their tracking? No updates for days and then all of a sudden it’s at your house!

Barkbox

First Look

The April Barkbox was packed nice and full. And it was very heavy this month. Heavier than normal that’s for sure.

Barkbox

The Information Card

This month’s Barkbox includes items to keep your dog entertaining during all those April showers. Which, as a matter of fact, we are having today. And tomorrow. And the next day. And just like the card says, the dogs end up with their little paws covered in mud. Here’s what was inside.

~safemade safe chew puppy stick($6.99): The furries aren’t big chewers, but I can see them playing running around with this fighting over it! Buddy actually used to be a chewer when he was a puppy (he ONLY like macbook cords), but luckily he grew out of that. The information card suggests throwing this in the dishwasher to clean it after it gets all slobbery, and I gotta tell you, that’s a great idea. I think I am going to do that with all the dog toys this weekend!

Barkbox

safemade safe chew puppy stick

~ABO Gear GroomMitt Bath Mitt($6.99): Okay, I am sending Buddy and L out to play in the mud tomorrow (this won’t be hard) just so I can try these out. These clean your dogs when you don’t have the time (or energy) to give your dogs a bath. Giving a 9lb dog (aka Buddy) a bath is much harder than you’d think. Baxter just stand there. Buddy claws at my arms. Fingers crossed these save Buddy and I from daily springtime baths!

Barkbox

ABO Gear GroomMitt Bath Mitt

~American Dog Toys Fetch & Glow Jr. ($7.99): I don’t know that Baxter and Buddy have never played fetch in the dark, but I bet if we turn out the lights and get these glow balls, WB and L are going to MAKE Baxter and Buddy play! WB has been playing with Buddy lately and it’s too funny to watch them. Buddy knows to be gentle when he takes his toys from WB and then WB goes CRAZY laughing and he crawls off to get it back from Buddy. But back to the balls, I’m not totally sure that WB will let Buddy get this back. He’s obsessed with balls. Carries them in the bar, the bathtub, everywhere. It’s kind odd.

Barkbox

American Dog Toys Fetch & Glow Jr.

~Etta Says Duck Jerky ($12.89): This duck jerky is all natural and has no fillers, coloring, preservatives, grain, gluten or by-products and the dogs love them already. B and the furries have similar taste in food, because he would love duck jerky as well.

Barkbox

Etta Says Duck Jerky

~Etta Says Crunchy Duck Chews ($1): We have gotten these before and the dogs are always fans. By fans I mean that once dog gets it and hoards it while the other dog waits until he’s not paying attention and then steals it. I have finally realized that I don’t need two of everything. They only want one. The one the other dog has ;) .

Barkbox

Etta Says Crunchy Duck Chews

~Licks Liquid Vitamin (Joint & Heart)($5.33): I have never heard of such a thing. Liquid vitamins for dogs?? But I certainly plan to try them. They are getting older (Buddy is going to be 6 and Baxter will be 7 this year), so we gotta start taking extra good care of them. Because I want Baxter to live until he’s 20 ;) .

Barkbox

Licks Liquid Vitamin (Joint & Heart)

All totaled, the April Barkbox had a value of $41.19!  That’s a deal if you paid $29/month for the box or $18/month!!  I think getting one Barkbox for both dogs to share works out perfect for us.  They are little, so they don’t go through things as quickly as bigger dogs would.
