First Look

Mickey Monthly notes in their FAQ that they are NOT able to provide $60 worth of merchandise in a $59.99 box.  They buy the items at retail prices from the Disney parks and then have to take into account travel time, shipping costs, paypal fees, etc.  They note that you can expect about $40 worth of items in a $59.99 box.  I appreciate that they clearly note this on their website so you aren’t surprised when you try and add up the costs from your box. Be aware that it’s way more of an experience box than a value box.  My November 2015 Souvenir Only – “Just Right” ($49.99) box contained the following items:

~Disney World Ornament by Derrick Lirette ($24.95): I absolutely love Christmas ornaments and pick one up every place I go on vacation – including Disney World. And I know from experience that Disney ornaments are not cheap!  I love this one and can’t wait to put it on my tree tonight.  I should warn you though that Disney ornaments (including this one) are heavy, so make sure you sure it well!

~Ink & Paint Vinylmation ($12.95): I love these too! I believe they were released in 2014 and have in a variety of different Disney characters.  They are blind boxes though, so you don’t know which you will get until you open it.  We happened to get Donald Duck, but would have been happy with any of them.

All totaled I came up with a value of $37.90 for the November 2015 Mickey Monthly.   I really liked this box, but for me, the value just isn’t enough to make it worth it. I understand it won’t meet the cost of the box, but I really wish it could get closer!

  1. I understand they can’t get the cost, but I think they could get closer. I write a Disney blog and have a while list of Disney subscription boxes which I’ve tried. There are definitely some I think are a little better value.

I had a subscription for the $59.99 box which is snacks and souvenirs. For my January box I didn’t even get $30 worth of stuff. When I questioned them I was told the shipping and handling was more this month since they spent more last month. I saw a pic someone else posted of the same box and they had 1 more item than I did. My previous month box was just as the website states- $40 worth of items. They didn’t spend more on me and I don’t think I should pay more for their going over on other people. It could be due to me cancelling my subscription- they decided to shift me? Needless to say I won’t recommend them to anyone!
