Inside

The October 2015 Hamptons Lane theme was “Coastal Seafood Boil”. The information booklet includes product information along with recipes and a little background on the theme.  Here is what the box included:

~Black Magic Cajun Seasoning by Spiceologist ($11.95): This rub is a mix of sweet paprika, spicy cayenne, garlic and herbs.  The information booklet suggests using it on shrimp, salmon, catfish, chicken, steak, etc.  So basally anything.

~Beer Vinegar by Back Forty Beer Company ($8): Of everything in this box, I am most intrigued by this.  Back Forty uses award-winning Truck Stop Honey Brown Ale to produce this small-batch Beer Vinegar.  It can be used it any recipe that calls for vinegar and is “especially good” with traditional malt vinegar recipes.  The information card suggests it in a Fish & Chips recipe and I think that sounds like something everyone here would enjoy.

~Chipotle Aioli by Terrapin Ridge Farms ($7.50):  Eek!  I think this is a little too spicy for me!  It’s described as having a “bold flavor of chipotle peppers” which is far from what I can handle.  B is going to have to enjoy this in lobster rolls (Hamptons Lane’s suggestion) on his own.

~Crab Boil Seasoning by Gullah Gourmet ($8.95): I actually opened this expecting to find seafood bibs and hand wipes in it or something!  LOL!  It’s actually a special spice mix for boiling shrimp, crab, crawfish, lobster, etc.

~Bamboo Skimmer by Hamptons Lane: I am not sure that we have a pot big enough to use this in, but I guess if we want to have a proper seafood boil we are going to need to get one.  I will need to peek WB from using this as a net in the mean time though because man, does he have his eyes on this!

~Stainless Steel Seafood Picks: The information card said that this box includes 4 stainless steel seafood picks, but they weren’t in my box.  I dug through all the packing materials multiple times and came up empty handed.  Since this was a review box I am not going to contact Hamptons Lane to replace them for me, but if you get this box make sure to dig for these!

~Lobster Claw Seafood Crackers: The final item in the box was claw-shapes seafood crackers.  I spent my summers in college waitressing at a country club and every year we had a GIANT lobster party.  In fact, it was called just that “The Lobster Party”.  Anyway, I have cracked into a fe lobsters with these and think they will be great to have at home too.  They not only work with seafood, but can also be used to open walnuts, pecans and other tough to crack nutshells.

I didn’t have prices for everything in this box so I wasn’t able to do a cost breakdown on it.  I appreciated the uniqueness of this box and it has made me pretty excited to have a seafood boil (which would be our first ever).  I am also just about drooling over the Lobster Mac & Cheese recipe in the information booklet.  It sounds fabulous!
