FAIR Treasure sends fair trade items such as jewelry, glass wear, pottery and paper goods, to your door each month. Their goal is to make it easier for everyone to explore the very best that Fair Trade products have to offer… and in turn, providing exposure and supporting the communities of people making these treasures.
FAIR Treasure ships via USPS and generally arrives in the first half of the month.
All I could really tell from the first look was that there was something breakable in there.
The September 2015 FAIR Treasure theme was “The Nesting Box” and included items to help you tap into the energy of the season and embrace the fall for all that it has to offer. Here is what was inside:
~Raven & Lily: Alem Necklace ($13): This necklace is quite simple, but I do love it. It was handmade in Ethiopia by a group of woman using bullet casings for the metal. For real!
~Home Fires Candle Set ($9): While the name of these made me do a double take (I don’t know that “home fires” and candles should be used together to sell something), I love them. They are handmade in India by women who are either deaf or physically disabled. Through the organization “Silence” they are able to become self-sufficient and earn a living. Silence also provides a retirement fun, health & personal accident insurance, profit sharing and certification of disability which allows them to qualify for free bus transit and reduced government transportation. The candles themselves are cinnamon scented and include three glass votive holders. I will be burning these tonight!
~Mercury Glass Votives ($8): This was handmade in Indian by artisans from Noah’s Ark Int’l Exports. And it’s absolutely stunning. I would probably buy this for 3x the price if I saw it at anthropologie or a similar store. The information card calls it a votive, but its’ actually quite large (3.5Dx4H inches). I will probably end up using smaller candles in it though because it’s mainly just that gorgeous glow I am after.
All totaled I came up with a value of $30 for the September 2015 FAIR Treasure. It’s slightly less than the cost of the box, but I didn’t include shipping in my prices and I used the sale prices of the items – not retail prices. I actually think this might be my favorite FAIR Treasure box to date! It’s all a great for us and has really cut stuff!

I think the candles are probably a reference to the saying “keep the home fires burning.” To me, that’s an expression of comfort and safety. Looks like a great box!
