First Look

I had no idea what the theme was this month and, honestly, the first link didn’t give me any clues either!  I was stumped!

The Projects

Turns out the June 2015 Koala Crate theme was “Ocean Adventures” and included three projects: “Watercolor Fish, Fishing Game and “Sea Creatures Puzzle”.

Project #1 – Watercolor Fish

Watercolor Fish – The Supplies

The first project we worked on was “watercolor fish”.  It involved exploring color mixing with markers and water to create colorful fish.  It was high on the messiness scale, high on the grownup involvement scale and involved creating and discovering.

This was totally WB’s favorite project of the bunch.  He colored three fish and I colored three fish, but he insisted that he spray all of them.  He was SO into it.  The colors of the markers were fantastic and were so bright and perfect for this. I wouldn’t have ranked this “high” on the messiness scale though.  It wasn’t bad at all.  At worst it got a little marker on your hands and water on the table.  That is a “low” for me on the messiness scale.  I don’t have a “Finished” picture of these fish here because they were used in the second project of the box.  You can see them below, but I think they turned out fabulous.

Project #2 – Fishing Game

The second project was “fishing game”. It included everything you needed to build a fishing rod and try to catch your fish.  It was medium on the messiness scale, medium on the grownup involvement scale and involved creating and moving – fine.

Those are the watercolor fish we made glued on both sides of the fishing cards. Aren’t they cool?  I was at first worried that WB wouldn’t be able to “hook” the fish, but he did it with ease.  And thought it was super fun too.

Project #3 – Sea Creatures Puzzle

Sea Creatures Puzzle – The Materials

The third (and final) project in the crate was “Sea Creatures Puzzle”. It allowed your little one to explore different sea creatures with a nesting puzzle.  The project was low on the messiness scale, low on the grownup involvement scale and involved discovering and moving – fine.

This one wasn’t our favorite of the bunch.  There would be no way WB could have gotten the shapes back in the frame on his own so I had him place them on the puzzle guide. That was tricky enough.  These can be used as bath toys though so we will likely end up doing that.

imagine!

Koala Crate also includes the imagine! magazine.  “imagine!” includes stories, mazes and other fun activities relating to the theme. It’s a great addition to the crate and allows you to continue with the theme long after you have finished the projects.

What do you think of Koala Crate?  WB and I have been loving it and they come out up with fabulous themes!  If you are interested in subscribing you can sign up here and use the coupon code “SHARE10” to save $10 off your first box!
