International Blessings, who kindly sent me this Box of Blessings to review, states that their mission is to empower 3rd world artisans by selling and promoting their handmade products, which then helps to create sustainable livelihoods and eliminate poverty around the world. Each Box of Blessings will have 3-4 pieces of jewelry or other handcrafted products made by impoverished people around the world.
There will also be information about the items (where they came from, who made them, how they are changing lives, etc) and information about the poverty fighting cause that will receive the 10% donation that month. The November cause is “Heifer Intl. Earth Gift Basket” which you can read more about here.
Box of Blessings ships via USPS during the first week of the month and are only available to those in the US.
This is my second month reviewing Box of Blessings, but I still had no idea what could be inside the box!
Box of Blessings includes information cards about each item in the box along with a card about the partner this month. Here is what was included in the November 2014 Box of Blessings:
~Alpaca Silver Stone Earrings (~$15): I cannot find a price for these exact earrings online, but I am guessing about $15 or so? They aren’t my style really, but I love that they are handcrafted and think that the artists who made these are very talented!
~Mini Seed Bracelet ($6): This bracelet was made with chocho platillo seeds from the Ecuadorian tropics. I have no idea what those are, but I really like this bracelet.
~Handcarved Animals ($6): These animals are carved out of muhugu wood using only rudimentary hand tools in Machakos, Kenya. These are totally something I would buy if I came across them traveling and I love them! I gave them to WB after he woke up from his nap yesterday afternoon and he’s been carrying them around or driving them around in his cars ever since.
All totaled I came up with an (estimated) value of $27 for the November 2014 Box of Blessings. I did estimate the earrings though, so I may be a bit off. As was the case last month as well, but I was most attracted to the least expensive items in the box. I loved the bracelet and the animals and would have paid more than the states prices for those ;).
