June 2014 Citrus Lane (2 Year-Old Boy)

Yay!  My June 2014 Citrus Lane box(es) are here!  I am going to do the review for WB’s box first (he’s 2), but I also received a box for a 4 year-old boy which I will review in the next day or two.

If you aren’t familiar, Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription box for babies from 0 to 5 years old which contains four or more products selected especially for the age and stage of your child. Citrus Lane  is $29/month, but they have a coupon code “TAKE20OFF” which lets you pick up your first box for $9! And if you order an annual subscription the price drops down to $19/month.  I always opt for the longer subscription with them because it’s a way better deal.

The Box

Citrus Lane ships via FedEx Smart Post and took the standard week to arrive.  It was scheduled to arrive tomorrow and I was hoping to get it yesterday, but it came today.

First Look

I knew (for the most part anyway), what was coming in this month’s box, but it is still always one of my favorite boxes to receive in the mail so I get excited to open it.

The Information Card

The June 2014 Citrus Lane box didn’t seen to have too much of a theme or focus, but it included the following items:

~Bumkins Classic Mickey Wet Bag ($10.95): We got to pick which Wet Bag option we wanted this month and I went for the Mickey Mouse one! I think it will be perfect for our trip to Disney and also perfect for L’s swim lessons. I have a few that I use now, but I think L is getting too old for my current patterns so until I can find a super hero one, Mickey Mouse will work out just fine!

~Skip Hop Straw Bottle (Bee) ($10.95):These are, no question, our favorite sippy / straw cups. WB loves them. I am not going to say that they don’t leak because my kids could make anything leak, but they are awesome. The handle on them is awesome because it lets WB carry them with one hand.  If you haven’t tried these yet, do it!!!

~Mudpuppy Puzzle (On The Road) ($12.99): I am going to save this for one of WB’s Quiet Time Boxes.  The boxes each picked a box to work on today and they were happily entertained for quite a while. A fresh puzzle that WB has never seen before will be perfect for these!

~Plum Organics Might 4 Bars ($2): Between L and WB these will be gone fast.  The amount of food consumed by these two is crazy.  I fear for what will happen when they are teenagers!

All totaled I came up with a value of $36.89 for the June 2014 Citrus Lane box.  It didn’t have the “wow” factor like some of their boxes do, but every single item is totally usable and works very well for WB right now.  The box also included a discount for ThirdLove which offers a bra fitting and shop to help take the embarrassment out of bra shopping at the store, but since you have to spend money to use it, I didn’t count it in the value of the box.

Did you get a Citrus Lane this month?  What age did you get and what came in your box?  If you are interested in subscribing, click here.   Now through 6/30, you can use the coupon code “TAKE20OFF” to save $20 off your first box!  That would make your first Citrus Lane box $9 which is incredible!!! You will be enrolled in a monthly subscription (which you can always cancel if you are not happy), but it’s totally an amazing way to try them out!  If you have your eye on a longer subscription or if you are a current subscriber and want to renew, check out the deal going on right now on Gilt City (you can read about it here).  It looks like the 12-month subscription is sold out, but the 6-month subscription is still available.

We pretty much got the same thing, except we got the forest friends puzzle. My son (20 months) loved his straw sippy cup. He was most excited about that. And we got the Pooh desing wet bag. Like you said, the bag didn’t have the “wow factor,” but all products are useable.

    1. Jennifer

Have you tried those straw cups before? LOVE them.

This is our first one, but I’m sure it won’t be our last.

This was my first Citrus Lane box (used the great $20 coupon!), and it was for my 3-year-old girl. Got a Minnie wet bag (don?t think we had the chance to pick, but she loves Minnie, so it worked out!), a 24-piece puzzle that I think is a little old for her (she just turned 3 in April), a full-size Episencial Babytime Bubble Bath and Shampoo (which we?ll definitely use?love natural baby/child products), a spiral-bound ?Fabulous Fairy Fantasy Coloring & Activity book? that seems great for her because she loves looking through coloring books like they?re regular books, so this should hold up. Not so sure about the waxy paper cut outs of fairy wings in the back, but the rest seems good. Plus two of the Plum Go bars. Would be a great value if I?d paid full price, but was amazing for $9! Signed up for 6 months using a 20% off discount code, which brought it to $105.

Also, it was supposed to have the theme of summer, but I really didn’t get summer from anything but the wet bag!

      1. Jennifer

I saw where it said that hopefully you are enjoying spending time outside, but it didn’t scream outside to me either. Unless you do puzzles outside with your straw cups??

    2. Jennifer

That’s a great deal on the 6 months!!!

  3. Elizabeth

We got a box for the same age, but for a girl. Our cup was the blue one with the owl and our puzzle was a fish theme. I loved the box this month!

    1. Jennifer

      That puzzle sounds cute!

We received a 20 month boy box. Shark water bottle, and Forest friends puzzle (I picked the blue outline Mickey wetbag). I liked this box and since a used sale pricing it’s well worth the money. I am already planning D’s birthday in the fall and since it’s a woodland theme the puzzle will be perfect for a ‘center’ activity.

I also got the farm puzzle mystery box using the code you mentioned back then for $10 off. I know people were disappointed but I thought it was ok. The weird yellow spoon (sand toy?) has been a hit. Also received a bath towel (a little small), skip hop fork/spoon (been wanting), book (cool graphics), munchkin dip plate (mine loves to “dip”), a couple other little ditties.

    1. Jennifer

I saw that dip plate and thought it was really cool. Both of my boys would like that I bet!

Also- wow! Thanks for the Gilt tip! 12 month sold out while I was doing it and somehow I ended up with the 3 instead of 6 month (bummer!) but an awesome deal anyway!

    1. Jennifer

      The 12-month is back today!

Still waiting for our boxes!! I was hoping they’d be delivered yesterday, but sadly no. We’re getting one for a 30 month old and 4 year old since I accidentally get 2 subscriptions now. And I’m still waiting for the puzzle mystery box that we bought. I’m impatient! LOL

    1. Jennifer

I like to say that I get my two subscriptions accidentally too!!

  7. Hilda

I got the exact same box as you for my 27 month old daughter. This is our first box and I used the $20 off coupon. Without the coupon I’m not sure I’d be thrilled with this box for $30. I’m on the fence on keeping the subscription. I think I was expecting there would be more toys rather than the practical stuff like the wet bag. Did I make the wrong assumption on this intent of this subscription box?

    1. Jennifer

It’s usually a mixture of toys and practical things!

    2. Jesse

I didn’t know what to expect either, but was pleased with my initial box for my three year old girl. I did decide to cancel, however, as I figured I could easily spend $30 a month on things I know she wants. I went to cancel and they offered me three more months for $15/month. That was enough to twist my arm. :). It IS fun getting a box in the mail, after all.

      1. Hilda

Too funny, the same happened to me and I signed up for another 3 months! 🙂
