February 2014 Hazel Lane Box – “Los Angeles”

I have had my eye on the Los Angeles box from Hazel Lane for a while now and I finally went for it the other night!  It was sent to subscribers in February 2014, but I wasn’t a member back then.  Luckily it was still available for sale in their shop!

If you aren’t familiar, Hazel Lane sends a carefully curated box of surprise goodies from that month’s selected city that they think represents its spirit.  The idea is to give you an affordable way to explore the world without having to leave your house!  Items you can expect to see included are food, drink, clothing, accessories and handcrafted items chosen by locals with the environment, social responsibility and CHICNESS in mind. Hazel Lane not only offers their subscription service, but they also give you an opportunity to buy previous months items and boxes in their shop if they have leftovers.  And I did just that with the February 2014 Hazel Lane Los Angeles Box!

The Box

Hazel Lane ships via USPS Priority Mail.  I don’t love paying for shipping costs, but I get over that pretty quickly once I see how fast my box arrives.

First Look

As I mentioned before, Hazel Lane shipped my LA box purchase with my monthly subscription box, so everything came packed in a larger box.  I wasn’t 100% sure what I’d get in my LA Box because they say that the contents may vary, but right away I saw the one thing I really wanted from this box so I was happy!

The LA Information Card

I didn’t get the normal boarding pass for this box, but on the back of my postcard was a handwritten information card from the Hazel Lane girls.  They must know how I love my information cards.  LOL!  Here is what my box included:

~Vegan Family Meals Real Food for Everyone by Ann Gentry ($17.74): I don’t ever plan on eating a strictly vegan diet, but I also don’t mind learning about / trying different vegan meal options.  And B loves cooking all sorts of meals for us, including some of the more complicated recipes which these seem to be.  Whenever we try one I will make sure to post it on my Instagram so you can see!

~Los Angeles Skyline Plastique Necklace ($27): As I was thinking about where I would wear this necklace, it dawned on me that I have a friend it would be perfect for.  She moved to LA from Northern California a few years ago and loves every second of it.  And I could totally totally see her rocking this so I am sending it her way!

~Pink Knockaround Sunglasses ($16): Love these!  My kiddos actually have some Knockaround sunglasses from Honest Co. that they look adorable in and now we can all match.  And not only are the sunglasses cool, but the Knockaround business card contains seedlings so that, when planted, it will grow into a plant!  I love that kind of stuff.

~Define Fruit Infused Water Bottle ($17): This is totally the reason I bought this box.  Well this and the sunglasses.  I was really hoping for both of them to be in my box.  I was going to buy each of them separately and then just decided to just take my chances and go for the entire box.  I saw this bottle on Shark Tank and knew I had to have it.  I don’t “need” another water bottle, but I think it’s so cool that a kid thought of and designed this.  I just need to get some good fruit for this and I will be good to go.

All totaled I came up with a value of $77.74 for the Los Angeles Hazel Lane box!  I bought this box as a little birthday present to myself and I am very happy.  It was $59.99 and I got two items I love already, one I am interested to try and one that I am excited to give to a friend.  All in all a good box!

Thank you for the wonderful review Jen! We would absolutely love for you to keep us updated on the recipes from the Real Food Daily Cookbook. I HIGHLY recommend the french toast. It has to be the best french toast (vegan or not) we have ever had! No wonder why the LA restaurant locations are such celebrity hot spots. Enjoy the rest of your amazing LA goodies and we will “see you” in our next city!

    XOXO,
    Ashley and Sam @HazelLn
