Sephora Sun Safety Kit

Yay!  My Sephora Sun Safety Kit arrived yesterday!  I debated whether or not I should do a review on it, but since I was so excited about it I decided I should!

If you aren’t familiar, Sephora offers a fabulous Sun Safety Kit every year.  This years is packed with 16 deluxe sample sizes of sunscreen, safe self-tanning, and bronzing must-haves, plus a convenient travel bag. It’s got a retail value of $177 and sells for just $32! Plus, $20 from the sale of each kit benefits The Skin Cancer Foundation.  I try to pick one up every year and this year was no exception.

One Side

These kits are available both in-store and online.  Well actually they were available online, but they are all sold out now.  You can check online to see if your local Sephora store has any in stock though.

The Other Side

It actually took me a second when I got this to realize that the two sides were totally different.  LOL!  I was like wait, I am missing half the stuff!  The Sephora Sun Safety Kit does not contain an information card, but you can see a listing of all of the products before you purchase the kit, so nothing is a surprise.  Here is what the kit contained:

~Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta® Daily Glow Moisture ($2.52): “Glow” in this case means self-tanner. I have tried a sample it in the past and while you need to use it daily if you want it to stick around.

~Peter Thomas Roth Max Sheer All Day Moisture Defense® Lotion ($12.35): With the weather warming up we will be outside more and more so I will be needing a lotion with sunscreen.  I actually think I will throw this in my up-north bag so I always have one there and don’t have to slather other sunscreen meant for your body on my face!

~Too Faced® Chocolate Soleil Medium/Deep Matte Bronzer ($12): This is actually a little darker than my picture shows, but I don’t think it’s a “deep” color at all (and it smells chocolate).  It doesn’t look crazy fake and isn’t orange at all.  A great bronzer!

~Clarins UV Plus HP Multi-Purpose Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen ($7.23): This one will go in my up-north bag as well!  I need to be way better about using sunscreen on my face daily this summer and I think all these will help me.

~Murad® Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA++ ($7.67): Ohh, I really like this!  It not only has SPF, but it also controls oil and shine, which is huge!  It’s meant for acne prone skin which is my skin exactly.

~Tarte™ Brazilliance Skin Rejuvenating Maracuja Self Tanner ($3.55): I did a brief spot test with this and thought the color was great, however, I am horrible at applying real self tanner on my arms on legs. I can handle making it even on my face, but not everywhere else!  I am super curious about the applicator mitt and might have to give that a try.  Actually, I am hoping this (or something like it) appears in a subscription box soon!  LOL!

~Stila Stay All Day® 10-in-1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 ($8): This is a bit dark for me right now, but I am guessing after a little self tanner or spray tan it will work nicely.

Stila Stay All Day® 10-in-1 HD Bronzing Beauty Balm Broad-Spectrum SPF 30

~Dr. Dennis Gross™ Alpha Beta® Glow Pad ($3.25): I have used these in the past and have always been happy with the results.  They give my face nice color and I am going to need to pick up more of these because once I use it once I want to use them every few days!

~bareMinerals READY Touch Up Veil Broad Spectrum SPF 15 in Translucent ($22): This is a great blotting powder.  It does kind of smell though, but if it works I can get past that.  That LUSH cleanser I use stinks like crazy, so this is nothing ;).

~St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse ($18): This gets rave reviews, but I haven’t given it a try yet.  I want to make sure I get it right because I don’t want to be all streaky and I don’t want to waste it either!  Give me your best self-tanner application tips! I get the exfoliate, but what else?

~Origins A Perfect World™ SPF 25 Age-Defense Moisturizer ($12.05):  I love all these sunscreen samples!  I seriously they are going to get me through the summer up-north.

~Supergoop! Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($11): I have never heard of sunscreen oil!  I do enjoy Supergoop! though.  This might sound silly, but the packaging on this one makes me want to use it more than a “normal” looking bottle of sunscreen.  Can it stop raining so I can go outside and need sunscreen?

~Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protection Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ For Face ($10.40): This one isn’t headed in my up-north stash, nope, this one going in my handbag. I gave it a quick test and it blended in nicely.

~Algenist Regenerative Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 20 ($22.50): This could turn into a everyday summer moisturizer.  At least maybe every day that we go outside anyway!  I was reading about this one on Sephora and lab results show amazing effects after just 10 days even.  I am going to have to see about that for myself.

~Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 ($12): Love Fresh Sugar lip balms.  I have tried a bunch of them and I love them all!  The fact that this was in here made me KNOW I needed to get this kit.

~Ole Henriksen Protect the Truth SPF 50+ Broad Spectrum UV Protection ($10.29): I am a huge fan of Ole Henriksen and used to his skin care line.  I am going to keep this one right next to the kids sunscreen as a reminder that I need to put some on my face too!

Travel bag: This bag is totally adorable and super roomy so I will be able to fit a ton of stuff in it.

All totaled I came up with a value of $174.81 for the Sephora Sun Safety Kit.  Sephora says it has a retail value of $177 and I’d say that is pretty darn close to what I got!  Plus, I didn’t even include the value of the bag in mine!  After my ebates cash back of 15%, I paid $27.20 for this bag which is a crazy great deal!  If you don’t use ebates seriously what are you waiting for!

Like I mentioned, it’s $32 and is sold out online already.  BUT your local Sephora might have it in stock so totally check that out (you can check the status here).  It’s so worth it.  And of course, there’s always my giveaway for your chance to win one!  Go enter!

Can’t wait to get mine — now if it will only stop SNOWING! No, we didn’t get any this week, but just south of us did — and our windchill was 19 one morning on my way to work – ugh!!! This morning was actually balmy at 43. Can’t wait to read the self tanning tips – I did buy the mitt from Sephora when I bought this. So, we’ll see. I’m pale as can be and DO NOT tan – no matter what. So if the St. Tropez is as good as the reviews…and I can figure out how to apply…I’m about to get a lot poorer.

    1. Jennifer

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it snowed here. I think it’s been getting down in the 30’s here at night. So nasty. Report back on the mitt!! I need all the details.

Yay i ordered one and cannot even wait . I think my favorite item is the fresh lip balm and then i will definitely try the self tanning – i heard exfoliate and i heard dont shave that day either – also lemon juice gets off self tanner from hands/palms !

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, that is good to know about the lemons!

I really like this set! Mine will be here Monday and I can’t wait! They included a ton of very useful stuff!

So much stuff! It’s a must buy!

Probably one of the best “special edition” Sephora bags I have ever seen!! The St. Tropez self tanner is the bomb.com. Seriously amazing. I have been using it for a few years and the best way to apply it is DEFINITELY with the mitt that normally comes with the product. They sell it in all of the Sephora stores and online too. (Its only like $7 and makes an entire world of difference.) The best method I have found for self tanner is to exfoliate the ever living hell out of yourself and then right when you get out of the shower put on a light but very moisturizing body oil or lotion or something. Wait until that dries and then put on the self tanner by sections (leg, leg, arm, arm, chest, ect…). I normally do it at night so it can soak in and nothing will rub off on my good clothes. Then shower the next morning to get rid of any excess and whatever smell is leftover and there ya go! Perfect self tan!

Great tips! Thank you thank you!!!!

You can get these in Canada now too, except they cost more (of course). I was one of the lucky to get them online before they sold out (to the plebeians) ? mine cost C$38.00 + Taxes & Duty/C$4.94 + Shipping & Handling/C$7.95 for a Total of C$50.89. Considering they say it’s worth C$210, still a great deal.
And, thank you for the heads up or I would have missed it!!!

    1. Jennifer

Are they the same exact ones? That’s not bad at all!

      1. Sher

I hope they are the same! Actually, I do believe they are as they are shipping from the States.

  6. Stacey

I can’t believe how much stuff you get in this bag, such a great deal! I need to stock up on some new sunscreen, my pale skin burns so easily!

You don’t have Sephora over there do you?

There use to be a few but they closed them all down years ago now!
