Yay!  My January 2014 Love With Food box arrived yesterday and I’d been waiting on this one to appear!  They usually ship around the 10th of the month, but shipments were delayed this month due to the weather so the wait was a little longer.

The Box

Love With Food ships via DHL Global Mail (starts out as DHL ends up being delivered by the Post Office) and took about 6 days to arrive this month.  In comparison it took 11 days last month.  You just never know with DHL.

I’d seem a picture or two of the January box, but I couldn’t recall specifics of it.  I opened this yesterday during nap time (can I just say that I love that my mail is arriving before nap time now so I can open and take pictures during WB’s nap?) and was starving so it was perfect timing in more ways than one.

The Information Card

The January 2014 Love With Food theme is “Wake Up to the New Year!” and includes items to help you work on “Snacking Smart, Doing Good” in the new year.  Here’s what was included:

~Banana Split Baby Mama Drama from Mama’s Magic Mix:  This is a mixture of freeze dried fruit and nuts.  Not my favorite kind of snack, but someone here will certainly enjoy it.  And I love the packaging.

~Pretzo Change-O and Original Milk Chocolate Squares from Jer’s Chocolates: Umm, yeah.  These are amazing.  I ate the Pretzo Change-O yesterday loved every second of it.

~Chocolate Chip Cookies from Home Free: These are nut-free and gluten-free and do not contain eggs or dairy, but I just tasted yummy chocolate chip cookies.  I would never have guessed that they were “free from” all that stuff.  I already ordered more.

~Superfood Chews from Lovely Candies:  These are chewier than a Starburst, but not as chewy as a Now N Later.  Good, but I’d never want to entire an entire row of these like I would want to with Starburst.

~Columbia Supremo from Caffe Borsa: Quite interesting.  You make the coffee right in the bag (in another coffee cup) and just add hot water.  I am going to have B try this and compare to coffee that comes in an MRE!  I wonder if it’s similar?

~Organic Berry Berry Granola Bar from Annie’s Homegrown: This was eaten by B after work last night and he liked it, but I don’t think he loved it.  Still, I would buy more for the kids.  It’d be a great snack for L at school.  Sort of related, but why does Annie’s (or any company really) make a mixed box of all their granola bar flavors?  I want to try all the flavors before I settle on a favorite!

~Lightly Salted Almonds from Blue Diamond Almonds: A B snack for sure.  I’d give them to L for school, but it’s a nut free zone.  Some people bring them for lunch, but it makes me nervous for the kids with allergies so I avoid them all together for him!

~Multi-Grain Sea Salt Skinny Sticks from Hi I’m Skinny: Delicious.  I have never seen these before or heard of this brand, but I need more.  I looked online and it appears they sell them at Meijer (if you aren’t a Midwesterner, it’s like a Super WalMart) and I am so going there to get them!  Love.

~Orange Fruit Bar from Oskri: Oops!  I forgot about this one.  I opened it up and thought no way.  It looks like the inside of a fig newton.  Except it’s a little more dense.  But it’s not bad.  I didn’t really taste too much orange in it, but I can’t figure out what exactly it did taste like!

The verdict? I totally loved this month.  I discovered some new favorites (Jer-O Pretzo Change-O and Sea Salt Skinny Sticks) and got to try a bunch of new things.  What’d you think of this month?  Did anyone get the Deluxe Box? Any additional items in that one?

If you are interested in signing up click here.  Subscriptions (for a regular box) are $12/month, but you can use the code “FB7OFF″ to get your first box for only $5.  I can’t locate any coupon codes for the Deluxe Box (it’s $19.95/month and contains 16-2o items), but, as always, I will keep my eyes open for one and will update if I hear anything!

Reminds me of the Goodies box we use to get. I signed up for three months…I’ll give it a whirl.

        1. Jennifer

The box is much smaller than goodies. I can never figure out how they fit everything in there!

I tried this month for the first time because of the $2 deal and I enjoyed it. You didn’t however mention my absolute favorite item which was the Orange Fruit Bar from Oskri. I LOVED it and it was all dried fruit so I felt really healthy eating it and would definitely order more. I hope you got it in your box to try!

    1. Jennifer

You are so right! I missed that!!

    Hi, Jennifer,

My box came today too. The deluxe box contained more of the same items as the regular box (2 packs of almonds, 4 chocolates, 3 packs of cookies, etc.), plus some cinnamon apple chips, with one notable exception: My box came with a note that says, “Due to production issues with one of our partners, we were not able to include Mama’s Magic Mix in your box. We added another SURPRISE item. Are we forgiven?” The item was Dang Toasted Coconut Chips — and they’re awesome!

Ohh, I wouldn’t minded 3 packs of those cookies!!!

    2. Bobbi

Same thing happened with my deluxe box. Was a little disappointed with the “extra” item since it was something we had already had before. My husband loves the coconut chips though so it was okay.

      1. Jennifer

        i wonder what happened?

      Becca-
I receive the snack box and the deluxe. In addition to what you received, I received 2 more orange bars and a pack of dried cranberries from Oskri, plus an entire package of the fruit chews, and Mama’s magic mix, and rise and shine breakfast cookie. I didn’t receive the apple chips or the coconut probably because I didn’t receive a note of substitution.

I LOVE skinny sticks! They sell them at my grocery store (Price Chopper). They have sea salt, BBQ, onion and cheese. I have tried them all and the cheese flavor is my absolute favorite!!!!

    1. Jennifer

CHEESE flavor?? I need to find this at once!

  6. Michelle

I loved the Jer’s too ! And I am excited about the weird fruit orange bar 😉

Let me know what you think!

I don’t know why you are raving so much about this – I found the snacks awful and tasteless.! You would be better off donating $10.00 a month to a local Food Bank – they could get $40.00 worth of service for your $10.00 donation (or donating to The Feeding America Program)! I wonder where the meals this company donates to actually goes?

    1. Beth

I agree that it would be interesting to find out where these meals are being provided by Love With Food, however your message came off as a bit hostile. How do you know she doesn’t already donate to a local food pantry? The donations that LWF supposedly make are a side benefit to the subscription box, not the point of getting it, since as you said a direct donation makes more of a difference. As far as the taste of the snacks, different people have different tastes. I agree with you that some of these snacks are awful, however, those peanut butter bites were awesome to me. It’s a matter of opinion, and those can differ. It’s not something worth getting hostile about though.

Everyone has different taste preferences. I live being introduced to new products/companies that I normally wouldnt find locally. Also, being gluten sensitive, it’s hard to find tasty sweets. This was actually one of my favorite LWF boxes so far. Sorry you didn’t like it…but it’s a big hit at my house!

  8. mari

Naturally, this one was filled with nut products, right after I gifted it to someone whose child is allergic. Argh.

  9. Kelley Quigley

This looks great! I’ve got this box on my to-get list, and I might just have to now with your coupon code – what a great deal. I want the chocolates!

    1. Jennifer

If you run into the chocolates at a store, totally try them!

  10. Carly michelle

The home free GF cookies were actually yummy! So hard to find GF sweets with no aftertaste. I am absolutely ordering a million. Well, at least a box! The mama mix was totally different, a brand we’d never heard of, and it was devoured in 5 minutes. Can’t wait to eat the rest so I can review it. LWF is one of my favorites.

    1. Jennifer

I would never have even guessed they were GF!

  11. Jessica

My deluxe box was also missing the dried fruit and the skinny sticks! I really wanted to try both too.
The chocolates were yummy. The orange bar was awful! I love dried fruit but it tasted like a chewy orange peel with big chunks in it. I was afraid to bite into those chunks for fear I would break a tooth!
The deluxe box also got some dried cranberries and a coffee cookie. I will have to try those 2 soon.
After my box missing product, I may go back to the regular box. I like the deluxe box but since you get 2 of most of the snacks, if you don’t like something it is a waste (like my extra orange bar!).

    1. Jennifer

Ohh, who makes the coffee cookie??

      1. Jessica

Morning sunshine breakfast cookie. It is called rise and shine and it is made with Ink brand coffee.

  12. Lorraine

My Love with Food box for January contained 2 Oskri orange bars. I only ate one because when I bit into it, it contained one whole fig pit and many 1/2 size pits that I feel so lucky I did not break any of my teeth. I feel that no one should take a chance eating this bar and Love with Food shouldn’t include it in their shipments anymore!
