November Loot Crate

November Loot Crate

My much anticipated November Loot Crate arrived today and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious to see what was inside. They release the theme early in the month, but then it’s pretty much anyone’s guess what’s going to be inside.  I can never guess right!

Loot Crate (who kindly sent me this box to review) is a monthly subscription box full of hand-picked, awesome geek and gamer products. Each month, for less than $20, you’ll receive 6-8 products which are guaranteed to have a value of $30 or more.

The Box

I ran out when I heard the mail truck today and my mail last started cracking up when she saw me holding my mail bins.  I was trying to give them back to her, but she filled them up all over again!  Mail was slow last week, but this week everything is making it’s way here SO quickly!  My goodness.  I get the shipping notifications and then boom, it’s here.  I love it.

FIrst Look

My box seemed a little empty on first look and it turns out it was a little empty – it was missing two items.   Since this was a box I received to review (i.e. I didn’t pay for it), I didn’t e-mail Loot Crate to request that the item(s) be sent.  I just e-mailed them and gave them a heads up in case it happened to anyone else.

The Information Booklet

The November Loot Crate theme was “Celebrate” and included items to help you get ready for those holiday parties.  It was also a celebration of next-gen consoles (Xbox One and Playstation 4) and 50 years of Doctor Who!  Here is what the November crate contained:

~South Park Rechargeable Mobile Speaker (Butters) ($19.99): This is a rechargeable mobile speaker and can be used for 4 hours after a 1 hour charge. B was peeking through my Loot Crate and plans to give this to his boss (he loves South Park) for Christmas.  Had he not claimed it, I would have totally put this on my desk!

~Batman Tyvek Mighty Wallet ($15): This was the main item that was missing from the box.  I may actually go ahead and order one (or something similar) for L though because I think he would LOVE to have his own wallet.  And a batman one?  That would be even better.  Why didn’t I think of something like this for him sooner??

~Premium Playing Cards (Robocycle) ($3.99): Not just another deck of cards, these are a robot playing cards!  The artwork is amazing and these are awesome for L.

~General Mills BFAST Breakfast Shake (~$1): I’ve never seen this before!  It gives you the nutrition of a bowl of cereal and milk all in one drink.  I am so saving this one for one of those mornings we are running late and L needs to eat fast. Sort of related, but he had his Thanksgiving Feast today and was so annoyed I didn’t give him a huge breakfast before school.

~First Person Shooter Glass (~$5): This is in honor of all the first person shooter game launches and is to be used for your “epic victories” along the way.  I am not into those kind of games, but B sometimes is and I fear the day that L discovers they exist because I know he’ll be all over it!

~Doctor Balloon: My crate was also missing the balloon, or I totally would have blown it up and included it in the pictures like they suggest!  Loot Crate is right though, celebrations with balloons are better.  If you see balloons on a mailbox, you KNOW fun is happening in that house today ;).

~Police Box Wall Graphic (~$3): I don’t know what happened to my picture of this, but it’s not on my camera!  L has taken it somewhere and I am sure I will find it stuck somewhere soon enough ;).

All totaled I came up with a value of $47.98 (that includes my missing items) for my November Loot Crate!  I enjoyed this month’s theme a lot because it pulled together so many different geeky things!  And I just want to again mention that I didn’t request that my missing items be resent because it was a review box.  I have never heard a compliant about Loot Crate‘s customer service so I wouldn’t expect there to be ANY issues getting a missing item replaced in a box!

So my sister just joined the Nerd club as she calls it at school. LOL Its really the scifi club but they talk about Dr Who, Supernatural, and other stuff like that. The other day they watched Battle Star Galatica or something like that. She would totally love getting this crate now. Last Christmas I ordered the special Dr Who one and she said she didn’t want it every month but now she may have a different opinion. And of course it would have to come to my house so that it didn’t get lost at the dorms 😉

That made me laugh!!!! Between her and your boys it’d be perfect!

This month’s wasn’t very worth it, especially for those in Canada. A breakfast shake? Really? And a shot glass? Not appropriate for younger kids. This was my first time ordering for someone and I’m quite disappointed.

Hopefully next month is better! Do you have any boxes like that that are in Canada so you don’t have to pay that extra shipping?

I bought my husband Loot Crate thanks to your reviews! We loved it! Our South Park speaker was missing all the wires (not Loot Crates fault!) And I emailed them late on Friday and heard back from them within a couple of hours. They are replacing our speaker, and were very nice about the whole thing. Thanks for helping us find such a fun company!

I actually e-mailed them abut my missing items and they insisted on sending! My son is going to be so excited about that wallet!

I really enjoyed this crate, but the misspelled word in the Tardis decal bummed me out.

I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out (I am a horrible speller). Have they addressed this?

I messaged on Facebook and tried to write on their Timeline but got no response. I’d contact customer service, but there doesn’t seem like there’s a lot they can do beyond apologizing… no point in getting replacements as they all seem to have the same mistake.

I signed up for Loot Crate in November and this was my first crate.

I agree with the earlier comment that it is not worth it for Canadians. Very disappointing for the price. On top of that, my South Park speaker doesn’t work. I have sent them several emails and received the same reply each time- Sorry to hear that, I’ll get one out to you ASAP. And I still have not received one, two months later.

December’s crate was also a disappointment, especially since the T-Shirt, which is supposed to be a women’s 2X is so small I don’t even know if it will fit my 11 year old nephew. I am hoping it does fit him because if not it will be a complete waste. Also, I was missing one item- the geek/gamer bracelet. A small and inexpensive item, but given the money I paid I feel I should have received everything I paid for.

I decided to check to see if anyone else has had similar problems and found this review. It seems I am not the only one. I definitely will be cancelling my subscription.

To answer the question about boxes like this in Canada, yes we do have one. “Nerd Block” launched in September 2013. I also signed up for it in November. The price is a little higher so it works out about the same as Loot Crate. However, with Nerd Block you get a t-shirt every month and usually one other larger item along with the 3-4 smaller items. In my opinion, it is a much better value, especially for Canadians. For $35 you get up to $60-$80 worth of stuff. And it always ships super fast and so far has never had any missing or broken items.

I would agree! You should get what you paid for and what size you wanted!
