Valentine’s Day Decorations

I finally put away my Christmas tree this weekend (*) and got started on decorating for Valentine’s Day right away.  I didn’t go crazy, but did get a few things up.

The Mantle

I really love having the mirror over the fireplace in place of the clock we had for years.  I still do look to see what time it is all the time though!  I used all items I already had for this, including a “Be Mine” garland from Etsy (I love this), rose vases from Pier 1 and red glass candle holders which I believe are also from Pier 1.  It’s kinda plain, but sometimes plain is better.  I really love it!

Apothecary Jars

Ahh, the apothecary jars.  I always plan to do something different with them for Valentine’s Day, yet I always come back to this.  I want to use conversation hearts one year, but I’m not sure what other things to use?  Any ideas?  I feel like there aren’t a lot of fun decorations for Valentine’s Day, so my choices are limited.  I need to branch out from Target (and Pier 1) after the holiday and hit clearance sales at Michaels, JoAnn’s, Hobby Lobby, etc.

Cake Stand

I saw these cute little cupcakes at in a Pier 1 catalog a few years ago and seriously ran right to the store and picked them up.  I looked on their website and they seem to be selling them again this year, but of course, they are all sold out near me.  That’s the thing with Pier 1.  They have the cutest stuff, but they get like 2 of them.

I put up a few wreaths around the house too, put out V-Day hand towels and all that too.  I love having the house decorated for each of the holidays.  B has school, so we won’t be going out for Valentine’s Day (**), but the little boys and I will for sure celebrate!  I’ll do fun baskets and I am going to make L only pink and red food that day.  I gotta get Pinteresting for ideas!  He’s going to LOVE it!  Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day?  What do you do to celebrate?

(*) My skinny tree had been up, undecorated in my upstairs sitting area for weeks. I have no excuses for why it was there. None.  Nothing.
(**) Who am I kidding?  We wouldn’t go out even if he didn’t have school.
Spread the love

OMG. Everything is so pretty. I would love to decorate for every holiday. I know I would love it once it was done but I guess I just don’t care that much. All I do for Christmas is put up a tree and stockings. Everything is in storage and I’m currently renting so it’s just not that exciting and more of a hassle. My poor son.

Did you do all this awesome stuff before you were retired?

I’m so jealous! I have this idea that I want to be this super mom who’s a RN pulling 4- 12’s and still gets to cook and decorate all the time but it never works. 🙁 I need one of those husband things to do all the working so I can retire!

Oh! And this years mantle is way cuter. I like the mirror more, too! You’re AHHHMAZING!

Jen, I just love all your creative ideas! I’m so jealous of your white mantel and the smooth wall behind it and the fact it is short in length. I am just getting into apothecary jars!! I have a question to you or any other creative person: I have a 9 foot very dark brown, 5 inch thick mantle (I HATE IT!) with river rock all over the back of it (all shade of browns/greys). I never know quite how to decorate it as it is just so darn long. I am 5’2″ and I have to stand on tip-toe just to dust the top of the mantle. Any suggestions? My husband won’t allow renovating 🙁 or painting either the mantle or rock – trust me I have thought of every way I could “change” it. I have had it since the day we moved in 25 years ago and have been stumped ever since. Thanks in advance to any suggestions.

What a great post. It’s so nice to see other moms who like to decorate for the holidays! You gave me some great ideas. We just had a baby and bought a house last year, so I am just getting into the seasonal fever, but it is so much fun! <3
